How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
my life is currently different in that I now have a cow and house that I have since built. All along I have had a desire to build a new house that would make my family happier but due to financial constraints, I have not been able to accomplish this. On receiving money from GiveDirectly, I was able to bring this long time dream to reality.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly did so well in their teachings during the barazas. They so much demystified the myths that came with the transfers and then gave us the freedom to choose how we were going to spend our money. On the other hand I did not see anything that I thought GiveDirectly should have done better or should have improved on.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I used part of my second transfer to build a new house. I chose to do this because I had a very small house that I saw it quite uncomfortable to accommodate all the family members. I also used part of the second transfer to buy a dairy cow as an additional one to those that I bought from my first transfer. I have all along been buying milk or taking care of a neighbors cattle in order to get milk for my family. This felt so embarrassing at times and I saw the need to buy the dairy cow.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I am more ambitious and happy in life. I managed to buy a few livestock. Financially I am much better and stable as compared to before when I only depended on casual jobs. These cows keep me busy. They ensure that I always have something to do during the day. I don't regret making this choice because farming is my passion and I am no longer idle.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was around 4 am in the morning when I received a message notification and upon checking, It was message was from Give Directly indicating they had sent me the first transfer. They sent the exact amount they had promised us. I was so excited because I knew that I would finally realize my dreams. I have never been happy before like that day. May God continue blessing this organization.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I bought two cows using the transfers I got from Give Directly. I managed to buy one dairy cow and a heifer at KES 44000. I am already milking the dairy cow and I can't count the instances I was relieved financially from the sales of milk from this cow. It has financially supported me on many occasions and I attribute all these to Give Directly. Apart from that I also bought chicken. I am planning to open a big poultry farm in this village. I have always wanted to start one but lack of funds has always hindered me. I thank Give Directly for their support, I could not have achieved half of what I have done now without them.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money will uplift my living standards in that I will use part of the money to build a bigger iron roofed house and for the remaining part, i intend to buy a dairy cow which in turn produce milk that i will supply to the nearby shopping center hence earning me a daily source of income.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My usual day involves keeping myself busy during mornings in my farm weeding vegetables especially during this rainy season and in the afternoon i often go looking for casual jobs in people's homes to help me earn a living. I am usually happy in the evening after arriving home from work having in mind that i had a fruitful day
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Lack of capital to start a business has been the biggest hardship i have faced. It has always been my wish to join my friends who engage in a business entailing buying livestock and selling them at a higher price but financial constraints has made it difficult to achieve this dream. I have seen most of my friends making a higher profit through the business and so when i get my first transfer i won't hessitate joining them in the same.
