How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is better than how it was before I received the transfers. When I was diagnosed with diabetes, my life was shattered because I ended up selling the property I had accumulated to cater for the medication. My children are still young and this really disturbed me because I did not know where to start again especially in proving good education to them. When GD came in, my hope for life was rejuvenated. I used the transfers to invest on dairy farming. This will help me cater for my children education and also continuously pay for my medication.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly has done well by giving the poor cash unconditionally. This gave us the opportunity of priorities the transfers according to our needs. This has really helped us as a community. I have not seen anything that GiveDirectly has not done well.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent large portion of the second transfers on purchasing a dairy cow to add on what I had bought previously using the first transfer. I decided to invest on dairy farming in order to support my income provision to my family and also to cater for my medication. I also bought two sacks of maize for my family and I used the rest on my medication.Four years ago, I was diagnosed with diabetes I ended up selling all my property to cater for the medication. I used to own a shop business but it collapsed too due to lack of money to restock it.
