How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
GD uplifted my life in different ways. First, it enabled me to build a house for my family. Due to this, my children now have a place to study from in the evening and where to sleep peacefully. Also, they no longer sleep at our neighbor's house as they did before. Also, I was able to buy a heifer using my transfers. I believe that it will be calving soon and I will be able to save the money I would otherwise use in buying milk. All this makes my life currently different from how it would have been had I not received the transfers.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GD did well by first making us aware of their intentions before visiting us in our various homes and by giving us unconditional transfers. I do not see what they did not do well.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
When I received my second transfers, I spent part of it to pay school fees for my children. I settled on this so that they would not be sent back home from school. Also, I bought some school requirements for my son who was in form four since he needed to start boarding. As a way of investing this money, I decided to buy a heifer. I believe that it will start reproducing very soon and I will be getting milk for our consumption and sale to earn an income. This will help me to reduce my daily expenditure and use the income from milk sales to pay school fees for my children. I used the remaining amount to buy some basic needs for my family. I bought some utensils and enough food to last us for some time.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
Since I have been able to build a bigger house for my family, my children nowadays sleep at home unlike before. This makes me have peaceful nights as I no longer worry about their security something which used to disturb me so much before.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was around 6.00 am when my daughter came to wake me up something she had never done before. On that day, she was very jovial unlike other days. When I inquired more about that, she gave me the good news I had been praying for. I then woke up my husband so that he could join us in thanksgiving to our Almighty for His blessing on that day which he had showered upon our family through GiveDirectly.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
My family has been living in a one-room grass thatched house. This has always forced my children to sleep at our neighbors' house and I have not been comfortable with this idea as I usually fear about their security. When I received my first transfers, I decided to use them in building a bigger house for my family. Since I did not harvest enough maize last year like other years due to lack of enough rains, I decided to use the remaining amount in buying four sacks of maize so that it would last us a little longer.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money mean I will be able to start my own business. My intention has been to run my own business of buying and selling cereals since it is a viable business to start in this area.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the morning after waking up healthy and seeing a new day. Seeing a new day is a privilege denied to many.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I have faced in my life is lack of enough land under cultivation. My wish is to increase the size of land in a different productive place since our area is not that productive. We have 0.5 acre of land which is less productive and hardly enough to cater for the entire family's needs.
