How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
For quite some time I had been trying to gather resources to enable me to acquire a new piece of land of my own but that wasn't easy for me with the little income which I usually get from casual jobs and farming. After I received my transfers, I opted to invest in livestock so that I would make more money when I resell this livestock in the near future. Hope the money which I will receive from it will be enough to buy a reasonable size of land. Owning such stock at my age is a great achievement which I wouldn't have acquired anytime soon. I am grateful to give Directly for helping to make a step towards achieving my dream.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
We were living in extreme poverty before Give Directly came to our village. Most people would not afford to take their children to school, buy food or have good shelter. After receiving transfers, all has changed and now we are on another level in terms of living standards. Give Directly did well by choosing our village to benefit from this project. The organization was not selective at all and every household benefited thus I couldn't see anything which was not done well.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
The second transfers which I received from GD, I spent KES 40000 on buying two cows. I made this investment on livestock so that with time livestock will appreciate in value. I now have four cows which I intend to resell in future so that I would have enough money to purchase a piece of land. The remaining portion of my transfers, I saved KES 10000 for future use and the rest of the money I invested in farming so that I would have food in the coming days.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in my daily life is the livestock that I bought with the transfer. My account has never read such a large sum of money at once. I would not have gotten money to buy cows were it not for GiveDirectly. The cows will mature quickly. On selling them, I just may be able to buy more land to expand my farm.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I received the money I was so happy. I was woken up by a confirmation message on my phone that I had received 55000! It was incredible to see that I could acquire livestock and grow financially.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent the money I received on the first transfer to by livestock. I bought two heifers, 2 goats, and chicken. I also bought some clothes for myself. Animals grow faster and increase their worth. Multiplication will also give more in terms of economic investment. With time, they will grow and fetch me a lot of money when I sell them in the future.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I sold 3 cattle to buy 1 acre piece of land last year. This money will therefore enable me to buy 5 calves to compensate the cattle that i sold. I will then invest the remaining part of my transfer in poultry project that has always been my wish to venture in.
What is the happiest part of your day?
After spending all the day at work herding livestock and ensuring they are well fed, taking a rest in the nearby shopping center as i chat with my peers makes evening the happiest part of my day.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Financial instability is the biggest hardship i face. I work as a cattle herder in a neighbour's farm and the little amount i earn monthly (ksh 3500) can't sustain all the needs of my family, thus making it hard to progress in life.
