How is your life currently different from how it was four months ago?
Currently, my life is so different in that I no longer take much alcohol as I used to do previously. I used to be a heavy drinker because of the financial responsibilities and general family obligations that used to drive me into depression. I used to take alcohol in order to forget all this. I would at times come home drunk. This habit had shaken my relationship with my family since it was easy to pick a quarrel with my wife during such instances. Now we are one of the happiest family since we can now sit down together and plan for family projects and goals together.
Do you have any new or additional goals for your life for the next four months?
My last born is about to join kindergarten in a few months to come. I have always prayed to God to enable me to take my children to good schools and ensure they get a quality education. I feel that Give Directly was God sent because they came at the time that I just needed the money. I believe with the financial empowerment which I have at the moment will enable me to take my child to a private school. This will ensure that she can have a good foundation.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life in the last four months preceding the current transfer.
I used to have a small piece of land that I inherited from my father. It used to be fertile and efficient it's only that it was small. I could get quality yields but they couldn't last for long. When Give Directly came to our lives, I decided to invest fully in farming. I was lucky enough to get a good harvest and now I no longer worry about buying maize. My father was Impressed with my hard work and decided to add me more acres of land to cultivate. The financial ability which GiveDirectly gave me has made me a different person.
How do you expect your life to change in the next six months?
My father got really impressed with the progress I made in my farming which I did after I started receiving the transfers from GiveDirectly. He felt convinced with my hard work and dedication towards this goal. This lead to him adding me more space for farming. Now I am in the process of raising tea seedlings so that I can plant in the next few months. I believe in the next six months I would have set up a seedbed. This will be the first step towards a long term project that will enable me to have a reliable source of income. Tea is a perennial crop that will be of help for many l generations to come.

How is your life currently different from how it was four months ago?
I used to struggle so much because I had to work for other people for long hours in order to get some pay to spend on my daily needs. I am happy because my child does not spend time at home while other kids are in school carrying on with their studies as usual. Back at home, they have enough food which we didn't have before and a well-lit homestead which can allow us to carry out our evening duties with no worries.
Do you have any new or additional goals for your life for the next four months?
In the next two months, I would be receiving merry-go-round collection which we have been saving as the members from our village. We are twenty in number and I am expecting KES 1000, this is the money which I have planned for already. I am going to spend it to buy a heifer and if some remains I will spend it to plant some fodder crops for my livestock.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life in the last four months preceding the current transfer.
The biggest difference in my life in the last four months is that I got to save the money which I would have spent to purchase kerosene for lighting in our home. The money which I save I spend to repay for the solar lighting system which I had obtained on credit. I am happy that my children got enough light and ample time studying unlike before when they would converge near a dim kerosene lamp which couldn't produce enough light.
How do you expect your life to change in the next six months?
In the next six months, I'm planning to build a better house for my family because now we are living in a small house which cannot accommodate all my family members comfortably. This will give us more space and with my teenage children will be spending their nights in a separate house.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life in the last four months preceding the current transfer.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I currently work on my own farm instead of going for menial jobs for others. I could go out searching for work that at times I could not find. We could end up in conflicts with my wife whenever I come back home empty-handed. She would not receive me well as she would demand food for our children. On receiving these cash transfers, I started farming food crops using and this has really stabilized my life. Nowadays we, are in very good terms as I get food from my own farm . I have several farms of maize in different stages of growth which guarantees me food throughout the year.
How do you expect your life to change in the next six months?
In the next six months,I will have build a new house for my family. We are currently living in a room that serves as living room kitchen and bedroom. I intend to build a nice house in order to improve my home.
