How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
There is a big difference in my life now, before I used to wake up very early in the morning to do casual jobs to raise money to pay for my college tuition fee, At some point, I had to defer due to lack of school fees, but now I am certain that I have enough to complete my course in accountancy, I also started a goat rearing business and with that am hopeful that I will earn a living. I am so grateful for the support.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly has changed the lives of so many people positively and I don't see anything they are not doing well.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
School fees have been my major priority, therefore when I received my transfer I used KES 10,000 to start a goat rearing farming, then the remaining part of the transfer I saved to use for school fees when school reopen.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was working on my farm when I received my transfers and I was filled with lot of joy. I couldn't continue working and I took a day off so that I would celebrate.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
When I purchased foodstuffs in bulk, I took a rest from daily purchase which I used to do in small quantities depending on my daily wage. Since I received my transfers, I haven't gone out to look for casual jobs as what was forcing me to go out was catered for. Now I have had time to work on my farm and as at now, I have some tomatoes and vegetables which I have managed to raise after staying at home. I am hopeful that this would earn me some income once I started harvesting.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
We had lost our crops due to diseases last season and as a result I have been struggling buying foodstuffs for my family. When I got my transfers, I purchased 3 sacks of maize and other foodstuffs for consumption at a cost of KES 20000. I spent KES 25000 on buying a dairy cow for milk production. The remaining amount of KES 10000, I spent on buying new clothes for myself and my children.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I don't have job security and I do casual jobs within my village,each day I wake up to look for jobs to do so that I can get an income. I am never guaranteed and so sometimes I have to borrow money from friends just to make ends meet. Receiving this money will mean financial stability for my household. My son is joining school in 5 months time and I would love to invest in his education with the transfer. Also I will buy 2 cows for milking, start farming then sell and get an income. I will have employed myself as well as not worry where to get school fees for my child.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Each day I wake up at 6 in the morning prepare breakfast and carry my two children with me as I look for jobs, I mostly work in peoples farm as a casual labourer, so I have to go around asking who needs help in their farms. Once I get a job I work until 5 in the evening the head home. I am mostly happy in the evening when I get to rest with my children after a long day at work.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
My biggest hardship in life has been financial strains. In 2018 I had joined college to pursue a course in accounting, but I had to drop out because there was no capital to pay for school fees, It is one of my dreams to finish that course and equip myself with the right knowledge to even look for jobs in the accounting field. Right now I am a single mother of two and I do not have a job, I really struggle and I am afraid in the coming future I might not be able to afford the basic needs that I should provide for my two children
