How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Before GiveDirectly came, I had difficult moments to pay school fees for my children because my income was little mostly from engaging in casual jobs.I fully depend on the livestock I had inherited from my parents to provide for my family as well as raise fees. This meant that I had to sell all of them and I was left with non but I kept the faith of owning livestock since again will come true not having any clue where to get finances for this goal. My life is different than it would have been if I never received this transfer in that I own two oxen and one bull which I bought with GiveDirectly's transfers. I am no longer able to work in the farm because of my age and as a result am left to depend on casual laborers to help with farm activities. Having these two bulls will give me ease in land preparation without putting a lot of resources to it like before. At the same time, I will experience an increased income through sale of milk from the dairy cow therefore I will have enough to meet most of my household needs.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly did well through giving unconditional money directly to poor households in my village. As a result our living standards have improved since all grass thatched house were turned into iron sheets, children in the village had the opportunity to attend school and availability of food in homestead was feasible. There is nothing bad GiveDirectly did because all that promise they delivered.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent my second transfer on buy a dairy cow and an two bulls worth 51,000 KES. The dairy cow is almost giving raise to a young one since its paged and that is an assurance of an increased production in milk which will double my income as milk vending business is marketable in my village . The remaining amount I bought a table.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
Before GiveDirectly came to my village, I had been having an ear problem which needed some surgery and due to lack of money, I was going through a lot of pain and I had started developing some hearing problems. After receiving my transfers, my daily life has really changed since I am no longer in pain and I can hear clearly unlike before and I give all thanks to Givedirectly for changing my life.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was in the morning after waking up as I was going through my phone when I realized that I had some unread messages. Upon checking its contents, one of the messages filled my heart with happiness as it indicated that I had received money from GiveDirectly. My happiness knew no bounds on that day since I knew that I would get the treatment I needed and I immediately called one of my son and informed him that I was soon traveling to Nairobi for my treatment.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I had an ear problem which needed an operation the time I received my first transfers from GiveDirectly and I decided to use part of it for my treatment. I had sold all the cows I had when my children were still in school in order to use the money in paying their school fees. Due to this, I spent the remaining amount to buy two calves to act as assets which will act as a permanent mark of GiveDirectly and after they have increased in number, I will share them to my grandchildren and tell them about this help I received from GD.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
My greatest ambition is to ensure that my children get the best education. As a result, I have sold all my cows to educate them given that I do not have a constant source of funds. Receiving this money will enable me to buy 4 bulls each costing 12000 shillings and a cow at 18000 shillings. These bulls will enable me to pay for my son's dowry in the future and the cow will enable me get milk everyday.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My day starts at 7 am. After I have taken breakfast, I go to my farm and water my green vegetables and also repair any broken fence among other chores. After I have completed all my chores, I prepare lunch in the afternoon and relax after a days work. It is at this time that I am happiest.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
I lost my dear wife to Ulcers back in 2012. This was the greatest challenge for me because I became stressed since I no longer had a partner. My children were still in school at the time and I was therefore forced to leave my small business (buying and selling cows) so that I could educate them and also take care of the family.
