What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Three days prior to receiving the money three of my kids had been kicked out of school because I had a huge debt in tuition fee that I had yet cleared and could not clear because I lacked the financial capability. So just imagine the look I had on my face when I saw GiveDirectly had sent me some money. I was overwhelmed with so much joy I could cry and this is because I knew my children could finally go back to school. Following day I paid KES 2,000 in school fees and they were on their jolly way back to school. I remained with KES 1,000 which I put away in savings because I wanted to get involved in livestock farming and poultry farming so I was trying to save enough money so that I could buy some goats and chicken to rear.

In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
Give Directly has done well in changing my life. This means that I can think of starting a business and even saving in a Chama which would help me to acquire loans and also save up for when I need to expand my business. Thanks to Give Directly my life has become easier to manage.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I decided to put my children's education as the top priority with this money. They have been sent home due to a lack of money to pay the school fees. I wanted to ensure that for the rest of the term that they would not come back home so I talk to the teachers and made a deal on how to make the payments once I receive the money from Give directly. I paid KES.2400 for my three children. This has lifted a boulder from my shoulders. The rest of the money, KES.600 was used to buy food and water for the family so that they don't have an empty stomach when learning.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
When the money came in it honestly felt God sent because I had no idea whatsoever whether my children were going to eat that night because we go to bed hungry almost all the time and I was scared it was going to be another one of those days yet again.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
I earn by fetching water and transporting it to peoples houses and I also sold charcoal ,so the money most times is not enough to take care of every necessity in my home especially the food part because most times when I fail to get any money I make porridge for my children and let them at least not go to bed hungry and I pray and hope the next day I get something so that even I could possibly eat.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
At the time I had debts at my sons school so I went and paid KES 500 for his school and then I went ahead and bought five packets of maize flour at KES 500 because I barely had any food left to feed my children. As for rest of the money I went ahead and bought sugar, salt and laundry detergent which cost around KES 200.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Would wish to venture into selling palm wine. It is a profit-making business that many have not thought of. With 20$(2000KES) capital, I will be able to make approximately 5$(500KES) profit a day. I will spend this cash plus the subsequent transfers in paying fees for my children as well as for the provision of my family basic needs.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Gathering with my friends in the afternoon hours gives me joy as I get an opportunity to keep off my stress.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
My husband and I have not gotten any formal education so looking for a stable source of income has been a challenge. Farming, which is the only source of our livelihood has been greatly affected by inadequate rains. Two of my kids dropped out of school due to a lack of school fees. Besides, I share my small 3m by 4m room with my small children. This has been the source of all my sorrows.
