How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I plan on going back to school once I have the funds, I am optimistic that I will be able to reach the goal with the little savings that I am accumulating at the moment, I was unable to achieve it with the transfer that I had received because I had to prioritise building a house first.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly does help the less fortunate in our society, especially old people and the physically challenged, they too were treated with respect, The staffs were patient and took all the time that they had in ensuring that the elderly were visited and enrolled, so far I have not witnessed anything that was not done well.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I am married and blessed with one child, upon receiving my initial transfer, I saw the need of building a spacious house for my family that was now growing, this is because the house that I had before was small, I was unable to build a decent house before due to unreliable sources of income, in that I depend on casual jobs to earn a living, thus I used my second transfer in the completion the house, therefore, I used KES 20,000, I then used KES 10,000 in paying school fees for my younger brother, In addition to that I was able to offset a debt of KES 7000, and finally, I bought foodstuffs with the remaining part of the transfer, I am so grateful for the transfer that changed my living standards.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I received the transfer from GiveDirectly I felt so happy. I remember it was around 9.30 am when I heard a message tone from my phone. I was taking care of my cow. When I checked my phone, I could not believe my eyes because I have never received such amount of money before. I immediately inform my family members and they all celebrated the good news. I immediately went and withdrew the money. I planned on building a better house. I am so happy because GiveDirectly has changed my living standard.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have build a better house. I used to live in a small grass thatched house which could not host all my family members conformable. The house was so old and it was almost falling down. I depend on small scale farming and causal jobs in the village. The amount of money that I used to get from my casual jobs is so small and I was not able to buy the building materials. I was only able to buy the small basic needs. When I received the transfer I bought the building materials and build a better house. Currently I live in a good house and I no longer get shy to welcome victors into my house. I no longer stress up on where to host my relatives whenever they visit me in my house .GiveDirectly has changed my living standard. I am able to harvest clean water from the rain. This were not possible before.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Iam a business man but i have been working for someone. When i get this money I will be able to start my own business of buying and selling cows. I plan to start with 3 cows. I expect to cost me around 300 dollars. I also wish to go for driving school. I already know how to drive but I don't have license. I have had many opportunities but due to lack of driving license I have been denied jobs of being a driver. So to me getting this money means a lot since my live will change for a better.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of the day is in the evening. This is especially when i earned some money from casual jobs that i normally do. This means i won't go to bed hungry.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship has been poverty. I was once married but my wife left me because i was not able to provide her needs. Getting food was a challenge.
