How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I currently wish to buy more goats in order to boost my return on investment. I won't have to struggle to pay my kids' fees as a result. It will be easier to convert a goat into money when the time comes. I am therefore unable to give a date for adding the goats, but this will be my top priority whenever I receive financing.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly performed a great job, in my opinion, by letting us decide how to use the funds. After they were withheld because of fee arrears, I was able to obtain my son's school credentials. I appreciate the organization for giving me the freedom to choose how I want to use the money. Maybe I wouldn't have reached this level of contentment and happiness if I hadn't had the choice to decide how to spend the money. Sincerely, I could not discover any areas where GiveDirectly fell short.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
The first thing I did when I got the second transfer was pay off my son's college debt. He finished his education, but his academic certificates were withheld since he had some financial arrears. I therefore thought it wise to give the college the necessary $250. Currently, my son is content because he has his academic papers, which comforts me and offers me peace of mind. After that, I decided to finish my house's roofing. I began the project with the initial transfer, but when the funds ran out, I was unable to finish the roofing. I purchased the roofing timbers and 20 pieces of iron sheeting. The severe drought left me with no choice but to use the remaining funds for the family's upkeep

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was happily enjoying supper that evening with my children when I received a message alert on my phone. I did not check right away because I thought they were promotional messages from service providers. When I finally checked the contents of the message, I could not believe that I had received Ksh. 55000 in my mpesa account. I was greatly overjoyed and waited patiently for daybreak to withdraw the transfer. The thought that I could now build a decent house made me happier and thanked them for their financial support.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
Building a decent iron roofed house is the greatest achievement that I was able to fulfil through the transfer. It's been my plan to accomplish this but I could not afford to buy the materials required. Every coin from the casual jobs that I do went to food and school fees only. I was not able to save enough money to facilitate the construction. I thank GiveDirectly because, through the transfer, I was able to build my dream house. It is spacious enough as compared to the previous one and iron-roofed. Being able to construct a decent house makes it to be the biggest difference in my daily life.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent a bigger portion of my recent transfer on buying building materials which include 20 pieces of iron sheets, nails and building poles. I am in the process of constructing a new decent house since the one I am currently sheltering is not spacious. More so, it is in a bad shape and its roof leaking when it rains. I also paid Ksh. 11000 to the mason for his job and other expenses associated with the construction. Apart from this, I also spent Ksh. 7000 and purchased two goats and added to my already existing goat shed. Owning the goats is a source of finance for me since I do not have a single source of income to rely on. I am expecting the goats to reproduce and increase in number. I can readily sell the offspring to settle my financial needs.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I am taking care of my young sister's goats as there is enough land in my village for the goats to graze and the rate at which they are multiplying is amazing. I would wish also to start keeping my goats. Receiving this money means spending 18,000 KES shillings to purchase six she-goats. I know by the end of this year they will have multiplied to 12 goats and I find it the best investment as goats can survive during drought compared to cows.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I was always struggling to raise school fees for my firstborn child who was in high school. I thank God and I felt happy that she completed her secondary education, at least I can now breathe and somehow be relieved of the stresses I used to encounter once she was sent home due to a lack of school fees.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
My firstborn completed her secondary education this year but she cannot get her results as she still has school fees arrears to be cleared. I tried all I could to clear the school fees on time but the little money I get was never enough as it was to be shared among other family needs such as food.
