What did you spend your third transfer on?
I spent my third transfer on completion of land purchase and other related processes (47,000 KES). Earlier on I worked as a domestic servant in this village and had no home to call my own, but I thank God for GD support, now I have land even though my house is incomplete since I ran out of money.

What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent 35000 KES out of my second transfer on purchasing a second-hand motorcycle since the person I worked for felt jealous of me after qualifying for the transfer, which resulted into my retrenchment. I was so happy despite having lost my former job because the motorcycle I purchased opened me a new channel of generating some income for the family. I resorted into vegetable business which involved transporting vegetable from the farms to those remote areas where such commodities could not be found. That has greatly improved my living standards because from the business, I am able to feed my family better than I could when I was employed as a home servant.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in my daily life is the peace of mind and joy I find from being self employed as opposed to previously when I had to work strictly under somebody with a lot of frustrations.

What did you spend your first transfer on?
When I received my first transfer I spent 4000 KES on a sack of maize and invested the remaining amount in potato farming. I do potato for commercial purpose since maize for subsistence is not doing well due to pest outbreak and I believe potato would be a better substitute. Again, I can say that a sack of maize has been facilitating us since then and this has improved our health.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I received my money, I felt very happy and called Give Directly to pass my words of gratitude. This is because I had been laid off by my employer that I had been enrolled in the transfer program which they perceived evil. Since the lay-off, I never had any source of income and therefore the money would now be more helpful.

What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I have faced in life is that for the last 2 years, there has been a major drought in this area and being a farmer who depends on rain fed agriculture, it has been very difficult to fend for my family since I am also not employed. This has forced us to sometimes go hungry.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Am happiest in the evening when I am having a rest with friends and chatting over various topics.
What does receiving this money mean to you?
I feel so good about receiving the transfer because I am a businessman selling fruits, this money will enable me purchase a motorcycle to make my movements with the fruits easy and also to cover a larger area.
