How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Before Give Directly came to our lives, we use to live in a around mad wall house with a roof made of grass. The house had leaking roof and during rainy season we would squeeze ourselves to one side which was better. After we got our first transfers we had no other urge apart from building a better house. We opted to build one bedroom with kitchen to start with which also act as a living room. Now we got a better safer and better home which we build with Give Directly's transfer which am certain were it not for it we wouldn't have built.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion Give Diretly came to our rescue when we needed money the most. The selection of eligible families was so transparent and the people from our village benefited a lot from this project. I do not have anything negative to say about Give Directly or anything which they didn't do well.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
The second transfer which we received from GD we spend some on paying school fees for our children. At the time when we received our transfers our child had been sent home for school fees and we had no money at that time. When we got the cash we felt relived and manage to pay his school fees for the whole year. The other portion we spend on buying building materials for constructing a bigger house. We had constructed a kitchen with a bedroom adjacent to it with our first transfers.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in my daily life is the new house that I am soon going to stay in. I have been living an old hut that has not been good condition. We are always rained on in our house and it has been a bad condition living in with my family. I am grateful and hopeful of better life as soon as we start living our new house.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
My transfer came at around eight o'clock. My husband had the phone and was not at home when the transfer came. He withdrew the money and came home with cash where he shared the good news with us at home. I was so happy and thankful to see the money.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spend KSH 40000 of the transfer to build a house, KSH7000 on my family clothing and KSH 7800 on my family food and other households daily basic needs.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means that I will be able to buy a cow which will earn me income through selling of milk and later help me build a house.I feel very excited.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the evening.This is because it is at this time that I am done with the day's activities and my mind can now relax.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I have faced in my life is lack of enough food.We harvest very little from our farm due to the climatic conditions and crop diseases.We therefore depend on casual labour most of the time which makes it difficult to feed the family.I have six children.I remember at the beginning of this year when we had to survive on one meal each day for upto one month.
