How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
The biggest difference in my life is that I now have a cow which I had only dreamt of getting way back in the past but I could never afford to buy it due to financial deficiency. Apart from that, I am glad to say that I now have a solar-powered machine that helps in illuminating my house, especially during the night hours. My family can now enjoy proper and safe lighting at night as compared to the old paraffin lamps that we used to have previously.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
I think that the organization helps the poor in society by uplifting their living standards. There are those who could not afford decent housing but today they have some of the best houses in the village courtesy of the transfers fromGive Directly.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent the money to buy one cow which I will be rearing until such a time when it will mature and give birth to its offsprings. I know I will definitely be getting milk from the cow which means that I will no longer be buying milk from the local vendors within the locality. The issue of buying milk from the vendors is quite expensive and that is why I opted to get a cow of my own and have a chance to milk it in the near future.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
I am now able to be a proud owner of my house, something that we had before. My kids also will be attending school uninterrupted when schools re-open in the next few days.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I felt so nice when I received the cash from the organization.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I used the cash to build a new house because the structure I had before was in a dilapidated state. I also managed to pay part of the children's school fees in addition to buying them new clothes.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means that we can finally buy building materials and construct an outside kitchen which will double up as our children's bedroom. The rest of the transfers shall be used to buy some cattle which we will rear for milk and meat for our own consumption while the surplus will be sold to generate some income to help with paying school fees for our children. Finally,we shall lease a piece of land where we shall plant some crops to ensure food security for our family.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the morning when I am taking breakfast. I usually like taking tea with my family because I know the Lord has blessed me with them.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship that we currently face is lack of a piece of land of our own. We currently cannot afford to lease a farm where we can grow crops for our own consumption and for sale. This means that any little money we get is spent on food, leaving nothing for expenses like school fees. Our children are often sent away from school due to fee arrears, this usually makes them very sad and I really get depressed knowing that there is nothing I can do about it.
