How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I am now living comfortably than ever before. I am going to have a house of iron sheets, am eating three meals per day and sleeping on a good place. I can also say that on behalf of almost everyone from surrounding villages who received that they are not going to have hunger this years if they use the money well.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
Give Directly did well on having community meetings for sensitization of what they do and what they intend to achieve in our area. From my perspective as a chief, it seems many households understood the importance of utilising the money to uplift themselves from poverty. I am also grateful as the process did not start with government officials who would have ended up giving us less money than planned. This money has reduced proverty levels by a big margin in my village. However, I still think GD should be prioritizing women in giving out transfers as these are the ones who keep the family and do not do polygamy. I am saying so as my house was congested with issues of men running away or misusing the money after enticing women for them to keep the money.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I managed to secure a full oven of burnt bricks. These bricks will be used to build a house once the rains are over. The rest of the money I saved up for building the house.

Life in the village is difficult. If I did not receive this transfer I would have been in the farms all the time but due to the transfers I am able to relax at home with my family.

I bought 10 bags of cement so that I can build a house. I also bought a matress because I want to be sleeping on a comfortable place. I kept some of the money to buy bricks.
