How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I am planning to invest in both goat rearing and poultry projects in the upcoming year and beyond. These initiatives will serve as an additional source of income for my family and me. I am thrilled to have acquired a few chickens and a duck for the poultry project, and considering their fast multiplication rate, I plan to sell some once I have a substantial number and use the proceeds to purchase goats. Following my father's passing and my mother's unemployment, I recognize the need to make sound decisions to support my younger siblings' education. Once these two projects pick up, I intend to launch a small grocery business. With my two sisters at home, one of them can help manage the business, contributing to our family's income. To realize this goal, I will sell some of my poultry and goats once they have multiplied to raise the necessary funds for this new endeavor.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
My father passed away, leaving my mother as the sole provider for our family. As she is a peasant farmer, she struggles to support my four younger siblings who are still in school. To help out, I used part of my transfer, $11, to buy food for the family as we were running low. I also invested $62 in purchasing two goats, as they multiply quickly and can provide ongoing support once my transfer funds run out. With the remaining amount, $29, I bought four chickens and a duck. I am truly grateful for this financial support, as it has turned into valuable assets that we never expected to own.

How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
In the coming year and beyond, I aim to invest in goat rearing and poultry projects. These ventures will provide an additional source of income for my family and me. To help my mother with our family's financial burden, these businesses will enable me to raise the capital needed to support her in taking care of my brothers' basic needs, such as paying school fees. Additionally, I plan to start a small grocery business. With my two sisters at home, one of them can help manage the business, further boosting our family income. To achieve this, I will sell some of my poultry and goats once they have multiplied to acquire the funds needed to invest in this project.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
When I received my most recent transfer, I spent $65 to buy two goats and $25 to buy ten chickens. I chose to invest in livestock because they multiply over time and can provide a good return. Having livestock is a solid investment; I can sell them when I need capital to address urgent needs. I also run a motorbike taxi business, and with my younger siblings to care for, I wanted an additional source of income to help pay their school fees, as my mother cannot manage all the responsibilities alone. I spent the remaining $12 on food for my family.

How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Currently, I work as a motorcycle rider, which enables me to make ends meet, save easily, and work towards achieving my dream. My biggest goal is to start my own goat farm. I firmly believe that the more goats I buy, the more they will give birth, allowing me to easily sell them and make a huge profit in the future. With this profit, I plan to provide the best life for my two sisters and educate them.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Upon receiving my transfers, I immediately decided to invest $32 in purchasing a goat. I strongly believe that goats are a smart business investment. Currently, I am proud to own a total of twenty goats. With the remaining $2, I bought food and shared a meal with my family.

I have a wife and five children. I work as a motorcycle rider which does not make much. I have school going siblings that I also support. My plan is to add more animals which I hope to also sell and make some more money as they keep reproducing in turn being able to take care of their school fees and nutrition.

I am really drawn to animal farming. I am trying to build an animal herd. I spent most of my transfers to buy animals. In July I spent my transfer buying a goat similarly to September. In August I spent $12 of my transfers buying chicks at $3 each for four chicks. I spent the rest of my August transfers on food items for my family.

How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I am building my farm to become an animal rearer. I plan to increase the herds even as the year comes along. I believe that animals are profitable and that one can really grow from keeping them. I do Motorcycle business which means I make some income even though not sufficient to achieve this dream of rearing animals which I have gotten through the transfers mostly. My aim is to increase this animals further which means I will be able to become fully sufficient as animals make a profit always.

How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I am a motorbike rider and I would normally make $5 daily from my daily runs. I have always wanted to have a sustainable plan that can take care of me when I am unable to work. I have hence decided to start an animal farm that I hope to one day commercialize. My plan this year is to add to the already existing goats and chicken to achieve a bigger number than the ones I currently have. I hope that through this I am able to make profits as animals give birth and when the young ones grow I can sell then and get money worth what I invested in the animal or more.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
The GD transfers I have received so far have had a positive impact on my life. I have been able to add a number of animals to my already existing flock. I used $12 from my December transfers to get an additional 6 chicken which has gotten my flock up to 100 now and I bought two goats with my January and February transfers at $30 and $32 respectively. I was also able to by food for the holidays using my December transfers at $20 and in January and February I was able to use $2 and $4 respectively for food.

What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I am born into a family of six children. My father is the breadwinner of the family and works as a driver. Our family has been struggling financially, especially in paying the school fees for all five of us at school. Since I got enrolled in the last six months, all my funds have gone towards my school fees and food for us. Recently, when I received my transfer, I invested $10 and bought three chicks. I spent the rest $20 on food, which lasted for only one week.

In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
Giving people cash without conditions was the best idea. People are empowered to make financial decisions which have since then led to some improvements in the village. I already have a house which I could not have afforded if it was not for the transfers. I have not heard of any complaints from neighbors about the organization. It is doing great work.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I bought corn worth KES 3000 with the recent transfer for our family consumption. I operate a motorcycle for taxi services but due to the increased price of fuel, whatever I make from it is not enough to meet the family’s needs. Besides, the current price of corn is high, and they increase daily. I, therefore, found it safe to purchase them in bulk which is enough to take my family for a good period of time before budgeting for more.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was at night around 10pm .I was at the shopping centre waiting for my last pick and drop of the day.My phone beeped and the message caught my attention as I read through I was so happy and excited at the same time and my fellow riders would actually see my infectious smile .As they all wanted me to share the news as soon as I shared that I had received my transfer from GiveDirectly, they all reached to their pockets and it was quite interesting and lovely for almost all of us had received our cash.I rushed home and the news had spread and everyone in the family was happy due to the transfers.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is being able to upgrade my family's living standard. I have plans to buy a bed ,mattress and seats since most of us sleep uncomfortably and seat on the floor because we all can't fit in the current seats we have.My goal also remains to have my money invested in the chicken rearing business and eventually trading some of them for goats which are more profitable. I believe through my livestock keeping I will help my father support my younger siblings.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I have been working as a motorcycle rider and it has been my passion to start a side hustle.I spent my transfer to start my chicken rearing business because I have a goal of eventually trading chicken to goats.I used KES 1000 and bought five chicken and the remaining KES 170 was able to top it up and buy food for a day for my family of eight members.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means safety for me. My father built me a house. Although it is habitable, the structure is incomplete due to insufficient money. The house has no door which has exposed me to many forms of harm. Wild animals can attack me or even thugs. I intend to use these transfers to finalize the construction. I will buy a door and windows for the house. With a door fitted, I will no longer have sleepless nights caused by security concerns.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I always enjoy eating rice, chapati, and chicken meat. The previous festive season was the epitome of my happiness. My favorite dishes I had missed for over 6 months were in plenty. Frankly, that moment was enjoyable.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The lack of school fees is the current challenge I am facing. I am a class 8 student at Mtulu primary school. I depend on my parents to pay my tuition fees. I also have 5 other school-going siblings. My father is a driver and my mother is a charcoal burner. Raising school fees for us is a burden. Their income is little and they also have to attend to other of our needs such as buying food.
