How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different than how it would have been if I never received the transfers in that I have started a goat rearing project. I had always wished to start this project of rearing goats but since I didn't had money to start, I just ignored it. When I received the second transfer I found it wise to invest on this amazing dairy. A goats gives birth twice per year and it really multiply faster. I will sell them when they have reproduce to buy a piece of land. This is the main goal that I am heading to. Currently I do small business of supplying fast food and I do save some money to other household expenditure and pay school fees. I am so grateful for the support because GiveDirectly has changed our living standard.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion GiveDirectly does well by giving money to the poor in the community to build better houses and to buy dairy cows. I do not find anything that GiveDirectly did not do well.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent the money I received from GiveDirectly to purchase two goats. I had always wished to start rearing goats and I found it wise to invest on this. I also started a poultry keeping project , This will also help me generate income through the sales of eggs. The rest of the money I invested on my business of fast food delivery and save some for emergency.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
When I received my transfers, I felt relieved because I was stressed about paying school fees for my son. I thanked God for GiveDirectly for the support they sent to us at the right time.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
Last year, I lost my father who would support me to pay school fees for my child. Since then, I couldn't afford to pay school fees and I was worried that my child would not be cleared after sitting for exams this year due to fees arrears. I thank God that I have cleared the school fees for my child and hope there would be no issue to stress him anymore. As a parent am at peace.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I am a single mother and life has not been that easy. At times responsibilities are overwhelming and there is no choice that to struggle. When I first received the transfers, I bought two sheep at a total cost of KES 12000. I chose these sheep as it reproduce three times a year and within a very short time, I will be having more livestock. I then spent KES 25000 on paying school fees for my child. The remaining amount, I spent KES 7000 on buying some clothes for my son and myself. The rest, I spent KES 3000 on buying a sack of maize for consumption and saved KES 5000 towards buying land.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money will enable me to buy my own 1-acre piece of land for $350. I currently live with my parents in the same compound hence I'm happy now that with this money I will relocate and be independent. I will then use $200 to build a 2-roomed iron roofed house and also spend $200 in clearing schoolfees arrears for my son who will be completing his high school studies next year
What is the happiest part of your day?
My usual day entails hawking milk and mandazi snacks in town in order to earn a living to enable me to support my family needs. Coming back home every evening after my sales are over is the time I am always happy.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
I have always yearned to be independent by buying a small piece of land to relocate in with my three children, since we currently live in my parents compound, but financial constraints has made this impossible. My first born son is in his third year in high school and my small business of trading milk and mandazis only caters for food and school fees. I am so grateful to Give Directly, being enrolled to this program is a dream come true to me.
