How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I am planning now to build a good house since I have settled school fees outstanding balances for my daughter and son who are in high school. I am also planning to start a business, with the money I saved in my lock saving account
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
Give directly change lives for instance in my case there before I was not able to clear school fees for my children but because of the transfer I received from give directly I was able to clear school fees at the same time bought a cow and I am now dressed we'll. Give directly gives hope in life initially I lost hope because I was not in a position to settle debts and even not able to fulfill my personal needs. According to me give directly are doing a tremendous job and I can encourage them to continue with the same spirit
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spend my last transfer in clearing my children outstanding fees balances. Initially I didn't have cow but immediately after receiving my second transfer I bought a grade cow at cost price of ksh 28000 The remaining balance I bought clothes for myself and the entire family.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I heard a message notification on my phone while busy fencing my compound. My curiosity to know who might have sent me an SMS that early morning made me read the message and my heart was filled with joy on realizing that it was Mpesa message from GiveDirectly. With the money in my account, I felt that my life had already changed.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
My life has changed for the better since I no longer depend on working for others and moving from one house to another looking for work. Due to this, I have been able to meet our daily needs on time and pay school fees for my children. My hope and joy are to continue supporting my children to achieve their goals in life as I believe that I will be able to meet their needs using the money that I will be earning from my power saw business. I am glad that I will continue enjoying GiveDirectly's good deeds for many years and I am grateful to them for transforming my life.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Being self-empowered has always been my aim and upon receiving my transfer, I purchased a power saw worth KES 78000 after topping up some amount. I will be using it for business and in turn, use my income in paying school fees for my children. I would have wished to use the transfer to pay their school fees and celebrate by making different delicacies but with the amount, I would not have cleared the fee arrears for all my six children. With the current business, I have been able to pay part of their school fees and meet our daily needs on time.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
My grandfather had land in Nakuru county. He requested me to go and live there. When he died his sons subdivided the land and I was given the notice to vacate the house I was living in. Before I left for Nakuru I had a house but since I no longer lived there it's no longer in a good state. So when I get this money I will use it to build a new house. I will build a house of 30 iron sheets made of timbers. I estimate it to cost KES 30000. I also plan to buy a dairy cow to assist me in milk to feed my children and if in surplus will sell to generate income.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I depend on crop farming to feed my family. Maize has been our stable food. In the last 5 years, maize has been affected by pests and diseases and its yield became poor. One year ago a new type of maize variety called DK777 was introduced and I planted one acre and I harvested 5 bags. This increased food availability in my family. This brought joy and happiness into my life.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The challenge I am currently facing is financial constraints. My house was taken by my uncles and I was given the notice to vacate my house when the land was subdivided. I have to relocate my family but it is very expensive for me since I need to renovate my house first in my former home. I left my family behind to come and try farming so that I can generate income to enable me to settle them here.
