How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different now because my husband is alive. I was able to use my transfer to treat my husband and he got better and healthy. He had an illness that was unexplainable. Had this transfer not been there, he would be no more as I could not have managed to raise the hospital bill.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion GiveDirectly has done well by giving me money that has enabled me to manage my day to day expenses at home. On the other hand, there is nothing bad that GiveDirectly has done.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent my second transfer to buy livestock such as a cow at Ugx 800000 and a goat at Ugx 60000. I then bought some household items such as two mattresses, utensils and food stuffs. I spent some money (actually the balance) to treat my husband.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in my daily life is seeing my house complete which has given me every day happiness. I would have died without ever building an iron roofed house since I could never be in position to raise such big money to build. At this rate, I will now be relieved from the suffering I have been going through where by my former grass thatched house always leaked, was infested with rodents and insects, small and almost in the state of falling.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I received my money, I felt so happy for getting such amount of money. This had never happened in my entire life.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent my first transfer to buy some building materials such as iron sheets, bricks, timber, nails, ventilators, metal, sand, and cement that I used to build my house. I then bought food that I used to feed the laborers and later paid them up using the balance.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
When I receive this money, I will build a 2 bedroom ironsheets house that will help us with good permanent shelter. The house we are in currently is grass thatched of which it is expensive to maintain it in terms of routine thatching. But with the ironsheets roofing, it will be a one off and help us save the money we would have used in buying grass. I will also buy a cow that will help in milk production for us to consume as a family because of our age. If there is any balance, we shall use it for normal upkeep.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the evening when I am resting with my spouse.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I have faced in my life is poverty. There is no available money to cater for our daily needs. There is also no adequate land for agriculture which would have boosted our income.
