What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
After receiving the first transfers I decided to invest most of it in poultry farming, so I bought four hens and nine chicks to help me kick start the business, and used the remaining bit to purchase school uniform for my kids since the ones they had were old and worn out. Now when it comes to the recent transfers that I received, I decided to focus more on the nutrition of the family so I went ahead and bought a bag of maize flour which contained a dozen packets for KES 1,600 and then also used KES 400 to buy groceries including tomatoes and also sugar and about two kilograms of beans. As for what was left I decided to take care of the debt I had in tuition fee, so I paid KES 1,000 to the school where my kids undertook their studies to avoid the debt getting higher than what it already was.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
Before receiving this funds my children would get kicked out of school constantly just because I could afford to pay for school fees. But now it barely happens because with money I manage to afford to pay tuition fee and I have also started my own poultry farming project which I had wanted to for the longest time but lacked the financial capacity to do so. Therefore I ma yet to see any errors when it comes to GiveDirectly as yet.

What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Since I have desired to do some poultry farming for quite some time, I saw this as the perfect opportunity. When I withdrew the money, I bought 4 hens for KES 1200.00 and 9 crossbreed chicks for KES 1350.00. The aim is to start this business which is a quick income generating project and if all goes well it will be a starting point for my life to change for better. Thereafter, I took the remaining amount and bought 2 dresses for my daughters because their clothes were over used and worn-out.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The main difference that I can show it to anyone and prove it is the doing of GiveDirectly is the poultry project. Ever since, it has been my desire to do this kind of business and this dream couldn’t have come true if it were not for GiveDirectly. I really appreciate what the organization is doing to us and after the said five years I am sure our lives will not be like they way they are today.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was around 8am when I was busy preparing breakfast for my grandchildren when I received a message in my phone. I immediately called my helper to confirm because I was expecting the GiveDirectly money anytime from then as per the information I had earlier received from the officers. When the helper confirmed, I was absolutely right. My heart was filled with joy for knowing that the organization has successfully accepted me in the project.

What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Financial instability is the main challenge that I am currently facing in my life and consequently, skipping meals has become our norm. This has forced me to seek help from my relatives something that I find shameful.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I feel so much privileged for being healthy with my family because no one has complained of sickness. This is something that I can not take for granted and thus, I consider this as what has brought joy to my life.
What does receiving this money mean to you?
Owning livestock especially goats as my source of wealth is something that I have desired for a long time but this has not been possible due to financial challenges. Receiving this money will, therefore, mean realizing my dream since I will be able to buy goats once I start getting the transfers. This will act as my long-term investment plan to help even educate my children once they join high school. The other transfers will help me to sort our very basic needs like food as well as replacing our beddings.
