How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I love dairy farming and the transfer which I received enabled me to buy improved livestock breeds. I got a mature dairy cow and a heifer. To maximize production, I intend to put up a zero grazing unit so that I can manage the animals within a small confined area. I will then add some livestock fodder crops to ensure a continuous supply of feeds. I couldn't have these plans at the moment without the support I received from GiveDirectly.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
The amount which GiveDirectly gave us was a reasonable amount which enabled us to improve our livelihood. For me, it helped me improve my farming and boost my business.
On the other hand, I didn't see anything that GiveDirectly never did well.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Apart from dairy farming, I work as a livestock trader, and with the second transfer I got from GiveDirectly, I invested the whole amount in the business. I have since then seen an increase in profits from the business. Income from the activity helps me to provide for my family of four. I have no worries at the moment as my business is so stable unlike before when I didn't have enough capital.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was early in the morning, and I was about to step out to the farm. Then suddenly, I heard my phone ringing, Upon checking on who had texted me that early morning, That was when I realised that I had received the promised transfer from GiveDirectly. I was overwhelmed with happiness and joy, I went back to the house and informed my family who was equally happy. I had plans already therefore, I figured out when to cash out the transfer. I am thankful for the support that boosted our living status amazingly.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
Finally, I have been able to realise my goal of boosting my business. With the cash at hand, I can trade in different localities. I am hopeful that with the transfer I will be able to attract more income thus boosting the living standards of my family. I am happy and grateful for the support that has enabled me to boost my business to another level.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I am a businessman specializing in cattle trading where I work as a middleman. When I received my transfer, I saw it as an opportunity for me to boost my business so that my income would increase. Therefore, I decided to invest the KES 55,000 in my business. With this, I am hopeful that in no time I will be able to multiply the money. I was unable to boost my business before due to the increase in the cost of living in the market. I am so grateful for the support that empowered me to strive for financial freedom.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means that I can start my cattle trading business in a nearby market. This is a trade that I have enough experience in, working as a broker. I will spend about KES 100,000 to invest in this and ensure that I get a constant income during all the market days in my area. I expect to be making at least KES 18,000 per month as profit from it.
What is the happiest part of your day?
In the last 6 months, my dairy cow has provided us with an income that we get from selling its milk. This has reduced the chances of sleeping hungry! I have never been worried about my wife and I lacking food.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Subsistence farming has been my mainstay economic activity. However, farm productivity went down due to a prolonged drought and a maize lethal necrosis disease. This has made it very difficult for me to get food for my household. I depend on menial jobs and working as a cattle broker, earning about KES 300 per week.
