How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
The house I am currently residing in with my family was last year de-roof by the storm. Due to the lack of money to build a more guarantee one, I still had to considered cutting sticks and thatches to reroof just not to continue being homeless. When GiveDirectly came in this town and us that the organization will giving money to every household in the town for them to improve their living conditions, the first thing that came to my mind was to build a new and guarantee house. After recieving this transfer my goal has been to have my house completed. As seeing I demolished the old house just to have a bigger space to have the new house erected.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
I always see organizations come to my community to work without asking us as residents what we want. In the end the project become a wast because no interest from the community. As for GiveDirectly, it is the first organization I have ever seen that provides cash for you and leaves you with the decision how to spend it. In this way, the impact of the program in the lives of the people will clearly be seen because the residents themselves are deciding what to do with the money given them.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
The first transfer I received from GiveDirectly I was able to buy three bundles of zinc,a cartoon of nails, and a mattress. Through the second transfer I was able to buy additional one bundle of zinc, planks to be used for the roofing and furniture works. I was also able to buy one cartoon of nails. I bought rice and other food stuffs as well. When I demolished my old house,I asked my brother to gave me a room in his house for my family and I to be till I can finish with the construction of my new house. I am grateful to GiveDirectly for this wonderful opportunity.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was sitting at home when I received my transfer from GiveDirectly, with great excitement, I started dancing. I immediately ran to the bathroom to take bath and travel to Buchanan so that I could withdraw my money and begin my building project immediately. Presently, I feel very satisfied that I am able to begin my house project. Glory to God and thanks to GiveDirectly for this golden opportunity that has completely changed my life.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
I have been living in an old house for so many years. I have also been sleeping on the floor with my family due to low income that could not afford me the opportunity of buying a mattress. However, with GD's intervention through cash transfers, I have begun my building project. Similarly, I was also able to buy two mattresses for my family and I. I am grateful for this wonderful program.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Most of my recent transfer was used to purchase 3 bundles of zinc ($34,500LD) for my house. Portion of my transfer was also used to purchase 2 portable mattresses for my family and I. Thus, I wouldn't have had the opportunity to begin my house project and also purchase two mattresses if it weren't for GiveDirectly's financial assistance that has positively affected my life. I am grateful for such opportunity.
