How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I was able to finish my house with this money and also buy some property for my home.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
Everything went well according to me. All I can say is that GiveDirectly should not change for others.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I used the money to buy Poles which I will use as part of the roof of the new house. I also bought a bed and a mattress as I did not have a good sleeping place. I also bought clothes for my children because they did not have any decent clothes.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
This money means a good and comfortable house with iron sheets as we struggle every season to replace the grass when it rots and the plastic sheet when it gets damaged. We shall also renovate the house by doing plastering inside and outside as well as cement for the floor. We also look forward to a comfortable sleeping by buying mattress as well as clothes. Hence overall our livelihood will change for the better.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I am always happy in the evening as I get to chat with my husband after a long day from the lake. I also have time to chat with other families together as that's the work that most husbands did in our area.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Biggest hardship for our family is food insecurity. My husband goes to the lake every morning and assist the fishermen in pulling nets from the lake. This work runs for a period of 10 days and he is paid MWK4000 (5 dollars) which is never enough for us.
