What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent KES 1500 to support my 3 grandchildren's educational needs. They had been sent home due to fee arrears, seeing them staying at home troubled my mind a lot. Currently, the elder one is joining class 8 and the others class 5 the next term. I have desired to see them getting a quality education so that they may have a better future. I also remained with KES 1500 which I spent on food for my family of 4 members. I also intend to contribute the next transfer and that of my daughter to purchase a piece of land on hire purchase where we will pay the remaining amount on installment. This is because the place that we are currently living has land conflict.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly did well for sending the cash transfer directly to our mobile phones. In addition, the unconditionally part is what pleases me most because I am able to spent it according to my wish. In my opinion, I wish the organisation could increase the amount per month so that I might meet my goals in less time.

What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent KES 670 on food and KES 500 to pay for school fee arrears for my grandchild (Ali Karisa) who schools at Kabatheni Primary.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The fact that I'll be receiving the money every month has given me peace of mind and at least I can be able to help the family in one way or another and I thank Give Directly for this.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I felt very happy and the timing of the transfer was well planned to my circumstances as I could help my grandchild who was at home due to a lack of school fees.

What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
High blood pressure related illnesses have been my biggest challenge in life. It has rendered me vulnerable to different diseases. Moreover, I spend a lot of money and time in hospitals without any success. I feel for my only son who has been going an extra mile to ensure that I get better treatment yet he is too struggling to make ends meet in town.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I love eating. Getting regular meals over the past few months even though it comes with a lot of struggles has brought joy to my life.
What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means better health for me. I have had prolonged illness caused by my high blood pressure. I have been to several hospitals to seek treatment. However, I have been unable to get better and this illness has made me unable to perform some of the basic duties I used to perform before such as farming. I am planning to use 20,000KES from the GiveDirectly transfers to seek further treatment in better hospitals in town. I want the doctors to do some extensive diagnosis to know the cause of my suffering. Putting food on the table has been a challenge too. I am planning to use a further 30,000KES from the transfers to buy enough food for my family. Doing all this will give me the peace of mind I have always desired.
