How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is now different since I feel fulfilled with what I have achieved with this transfers. They have made me a courageous woman among my village members unlike before poverty had made me fear even talking since every time I try people thought I want to beg for something and many ran away from me. My future is bright, no more stress in my life and my children are going to school comfortably unlike before they spent half of school calendar on the road because of lack of school fees.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
The giving of unconditional transfers was the best thing that GiveDirectly did. We all have different needs hence this helped everyone in the village to cater for their need in a personal way. This gesture brought harmony and to many. I cant even think of any bad thing from you.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I Bought a cow worth 29200 KES because it will help me with milk for family use and for income generation since I will sell part of it to raise school fess for my children. I also bought some Beddings worth 7600 KES since the ones I had were worn out and didn't help especially now during the cold season. I love chicken since you can never sleep angry when one has them so I used the rest of the transfers to buy more and renovate their coop.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I received my transfer I was so overwhelmed and happy, it was the best day in our lives, it was as if it's Christmas day, celebrations were all over the village, We were all filled with joy and happiness.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
My life is different now in that, I normally depend on farming to sustain my family basic needs and school fees, which is rarely enough, for now, I am comfortable that I have cleared all my school fees arrears and that I have a poultry project running, therefore am hopeful that I will earn a living out of it. My family and I are so grateful for the financial support which changed our lives.

When I received my transfer I paid school fees for my children, then the remaining part of the transfer I used in starting up poultry keeping project, I am a subsistent farmer and I know that Poultry farming will boost my income.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
With 2 of our children in college and another in secondary school, it has been very burdensome to pay their fees without a regular source of income. Receiving this money will unlock a long-time-suppressed potential of becoming a prolific poultry farmer. Having begun this agribusiness, I anticipate to educate my children with ease from the sale of chicken eggs and meat. Putting up a poultry structure will cost $150 will 20 chicken is worth $80.Thanks to GiveDirectly, the ambition to have all my children become college graduates has become foreseeable.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the morning. One of my children is in secondary school wakes up for school this early and I take delight in making him breakfast because I love education.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Being a semi arid area, livestock play a very vital role in the education of our children, access to quality healthcare, food and decent shelter through the sale of its products. When a severe drought befell my community 3 years ago, we were devastated to lose 10 of our herds of cattle to hunger and lack of water. A plan to build a a decent house for us and the children, and start a poultry business was thwarted. This is the biggest hardship we have faced in the recent years.
