How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I majorly depend on farming as a source of income in my family. I practice mixed farming to increase the returns and it is always my happiness and desire to see my farming expand and do better. Even though I struggle to inject some resources to improve this, my daily household needs had taken much of the resource that whatever I put into farming was never felt enough. Ever since I received my transfer, I feel my life has greatly changed. I bought a dairy cow and goats to add to my livestock. This is the biggest difference in my daily life since I have added assets that will soon reproduce. I feel have security to lean on during a financial crisis and soon will have more milk to sell thus will have a higher income to pay for my children's education and to meet some of our needs.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly has done well in uplifting our lives which were miserable before enrollment. I do not see anything that GiveDirectly does not do well. They have proven to be there to uplift society and their operation is really meant for the intended purpose in the society.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
Being a farmer, I am always keen to improve and expand it to earn more returns. When I received my second transfer, I took KES10000 to lease a piece of land to help me expand my farming. I feel encouraged to see a larger farm with good crops expecting better returns courtesy of GiveDirectly. I have been operating a small business to help me see my family through and I love it since it gives me a daily income. I had been hopeful of expanding it but the overwhelming household needs never made it possible. I took KES25000 of my second transfer to boost the stock in my business and I currently enjoy higher profits due to a wider range of stock for my clients too chose from. In addition, I took the remaining amount to spent on my family well being, KES16000 on our clothing and KES4000 on our household daily basic needs. I feel GiveDirectly has uplifted our living standards and I thanked them a lot.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in my daily life that has been brought about by this money is that I have since stopped buying milk after I was able to buy a milk producing cow. With this, I know, we are going to save a lot of money and even get money from the sell of surplus produced to meet other family needs. We are looking forward to improved living standards for our family and we are so grateful to GiveDirectly for the support that they offered us.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I got a message from Safaricom at around 5:00 am in the morning that day. I felt so happy and shared the information with my husband that we had received a sum of KES 55000 from GiveDirectly. He was equally surprised as I was but he was definitely delighted as well. We expected the money but it was not until we got that we were able to believe that GiveDirectly's promise to us was finally a reality.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I used part of my transfer to buy a dairy cow and used the remaining amount to buy food and other basic household commodities. For a long time we have been buying milk for household consumption which has proven to be quite expensive. The money that has always been used to buy milk will be diverted to other meaningful family investments. I am particularly thinking about starting a clothe selling business to increase our family income. This will definitely change the living standards of my family.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means that I will now own a dairy cow which has always been my desire. This will serve as a source of income when I sell the milk that I get from it.I also have a plan of hawking clothes within the village and during market days. This is the business I have always wished to start. My long term plan is owning my own shop for doing this business.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My first major duty of the day if fetching water.I then embark on the main activity of the day which is farming.I am a subsistence farmer.Currently I am weeding maize and beans. After lunch I do some cleaning, mainly washing of clothes.I then relax for the rest of the day.I enjoy working in my farm and that is why it is the happiest part of my day. This is what helps me feed my family.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I have faced in my life is having to struggle during this hard economic times due to lack of money.I believe this could be better if I had completed my secondary studies and joined college. This could help me get employed.I did not complete my studies due to lack of school fees.I did not proceed past primary school.I am also struggling because my husband is a drunkard and I get little support from him.
