Receiving the transfers from GiveDirectly means rebuilding our life. I plan to use $310 of my transfers to build a single-roomed house for my family of five. Livestock farming especially goats is doing well in my community, this motivates me to spend $151 of my transfers to buy four goats. This will boost our family income in the future. We are also battling with perennial food shortage in my family, I will use $100 to buy enough food for the family and other basic needs such as clothes and bedding.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Two weeks ago, I welcomed baby Patience Jeruto into the world. Despite the many challenges we have faced, her arrival fills me with joy and hope for a brighter future. I am eagerly waiting for my husband to come back home and meet our precious gift.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Our lives have been challenging over the past four months. Providing for my family has become an uphill battle. My husband had a dispute with a neighbor over land boundaries, which escalated and led to his remand in April. Unfortunately, he was our sole breadwinner. With our two-week-old baby to care for, I am unable to seek work to support our family of five. Our agony never started there, earlier this year, a strong wind destroyed our main house, forcing us to live in our kitchen, which has become both our living space and cooking area. We use firewood to cook and warm ourselves, In most cases the house is full of smoke and I am worried that our child might develop breathing complications.
