How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different from how it was in that, I no longer live as an internally displaced person for I now have a home thanks to the good gestures from GiveDirectly.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly is geared towards uplifting the living standards of those who come from a humble background having been a beneficiary of the same. This to me is above board. Nothing went wrong.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I only topped up KES 10000 to the recent transfer and used the amount on building a decent house in my own piece of land. Before then I used to work and live as an internally displaced person in someone's else piece of land. I used to work for the said person for almost 60 years and what I earned was not sufficient enough to help me construct an expansive and decent homestead. However, my hope was rekindled when GiveDirectly took me on board and made me one of the beneficiaries of their transfer. Thanks to GiveDirectly I now own a homestead and can comfortably initiate my own development. I also bought a wall unit, a table, and more utensils.

What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
"The biggest hardship i have faced in life is the hard life i have lived after the death of my life. Life has become so miserable because i am forced to do the domestic duties which my wife used to do. I also lack my companion."
What is the happiest part of your day?
"The happiest part of my is night, this the time i have opportunity to sleep and rest. I feel some freedom in me at this time due to the fact that at day time, i am like a slave of poverty."
What does receiving this money mean to you?
"Receiving this money is like a dream to me. I have a small house which is in a very bad condition and at the age of 73 years, there is nothing i can do much to generate income to use in building a house, therefore i am now happy that i will be capable of building a descent house."
