How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
When I got my first transfer, I bought cement to improve my house. I built my house two years ago, but I was not having money to plaster it. With my second and third transfers, my new goal is to buy motorbike which I have already bought. This motorbike will cotinue to generate money for my family sustainability. I appreciate GiveDirectly for this transfer.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly gives me money without attaching any condition. I choose what to do with my transfer. There is no corruption. GiveDirectly program is corrupt free. In my opinion, GiveDirectly is doing everything well.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent my recent transfer on buying new motorbike. This motorbike is a self employment for me. I was very poor harvesting palm and producing the oil to sell and feed my family. I generate not less than 6000LD per week. GiveDirectly has transformed my life from poverty to a better life. Even if GiveDirectly leaves my community, I will be able to sustain my family. I appreciate GiveDirectly for this transfer.

How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My goals before recieving this transfer is to plaster my house with cement, put floor in my house, and improve my roof. Due to financial constraints, I have not been able to find my ways through to achieve those goals. Now that I have this money, I am going to buy cement to plaster and put floor in my house and zinc to improve my roof.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
I think GiveDirectly is doing well by giving us the money for ourselves to decide what to do with it. However, I think GiveDirectly should have an arranged discussion with the GSM company to have a cash out center closer by to avoid us spending more on transportation.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent my most recent transfers on cement. I bought about twenty bags of cement and two bundles of zinc to plaster, put floor, and improve my roof. When this is done, it will be the first time ever in my life to live in a house that will have the roof covered with zinc and the floor with concrete.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
"It was my very first time in life to see and handle this kind of money. I was shocked and out of words by the figure $ 40,375 LRD. To say I was happy will not even be enough to describe my feeling when I saw the message. I was working in the bushes when I got the text alert. I did not think I was going to receive this kind of money due to all the negative things that people had said about GiveDirectly. When I saw the message I was so overwhelmed. As you can see (pointing to his house) my house is not in a descent condition. It leaks whenever ran falls. We are always in fear when the rainy season is approaching. I fear for my children health. But with this good Will from GiveDirectly, I am trying to change my living condition".
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
When I look at my house every morning, I feel so happy. It's so satisfying to finally have a dream come true as a family head and a father. The smiles on the faces of my kids and wife has been so emotional. Even though the plastering hasn't been completed, I can only thank God for GiveDirectly that I can put smile on the faces of my kids and wife. That I now see fresh smile on their faces of my family shows the biggest difference in my daily life.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I couldn't do anything beyond improving my house with this money. It has been my deepest desire to have a descent living condition for my family. With the first transfer, I bought some cement to improve my house, plaster my entire building and make concrete floor. This will help my children from becoming sick regularly due to cold. They always fell sick after a month or two from sleeping on the cold floor. I also bought some food for the house and saved the rest for the future.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Currently I'm thinking of completing my house full with cement and sand so Whenever I receive the cash transfer the first thing that I will do is to fully complete and beautify my house and send my daughter in town for her schooling.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I have been struggling for so long to get me and my family own sleeping place (house) so for my house to be at the level, at least it's a plus for me. That's what gave me joy over the past time.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Right now my biggest challenge is completing my house and to give my child education because I didn't complete High school and didn't attend college so I want my daughter to achieve education.
