How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is currently different because I won livestock and my crop farm is well attended to. I bought a heifer that I now feed and planted maize that is now doing so well and is about to be harvested. As a matter of fact, I am now employed to manage my own farm! Initially, I used to roam about in the community looking for work on other people's farms. I am now busy on my own farm which I believe will bring me more returns than menial jobs.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly did very well and kept their word. They ensured that those enrolled in the program were only eligible households. I haven't seen any way in which the organization did not do well.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent the money I received on improving my home. I bought furniture and cushions to make my stay at home more comfortable. Completing and furnishing my home had long been in my plan. I am happy that i is finally achieved. I then bought a heifer to ensure that I become among the dairy farmers in my village. I finally bought foodstuffs for my family and clothes for the children.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
For a long time the roofing on my kitchen has been leaking and uncomfortable to stay in during rainy season. It has been a challenge to my children who sleep there. They have a hard time concentrating in school the following day due to insufficient sleep. Receiving this money will enable me to install a new corrugated iron sheet roofing at a cost of 108 usd. This is going to make my children proud of their home and have a life of dignity that they deserve.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I care so much about the wellbeing of my children, especially food security. I am a casual worker. My day involves cultivating people's farms for maize planting. In the evening I am paid my dues of 2usd and most days my payment is made in kind. I go home to my children a proud mother with food for the day. This makes me so happy.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Providing my family with daily bread has been an uphill task. Working in the village as a casual labourer to earn 2 usd at the end of the day is only enough to live from hand to mouth. Since I do not own any livestock I still depend on the dues I get from every day's casual work to buy milk for my children. For some days I have to abscond meals to sacrifice so my children would have enough. They mean so much to me and my biggest concern has always been the family's food security.
