How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I don't have new goal for as for now. My goal was was to finish a building project that I had started before receiving the transfers.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly gives us unconditional transfers so that we can plan for ourselves according to our needs. If the transfers were conditional,it wouldn't be of much help since I would not have achieved my goals but thanks to GiveDirectly for making it happen.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Some years back, I bought a plot and I had started building some shops but it had taken too long to complete because I also had a responsibility of providing basic needs and paying school fees for my children. Since I'm a mason by profession, all I wanted was to buy enough building materials. I spend all my second transfers to buy building materials and I have managed to build the shops to completion. My shops are now ready for renting out and I'm hopeful that I will be earning some good income to support my family. I'm so grateful to GiveDirectly for making this happen. May you continue supporting other people to achieve their dreams.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was in the evening when I was about to go to sleep when I saw the transfer message. I was overjoyed and for receiving the transfer hence the drowsiness disappeared. After looking at the message closely I realized the money was received in my phone since 11am and I was surprised why I didn’t see the message for all that long.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference that I have experienced is that I didn’t have a reliable source of income before but when I got the transfer and constructed my house, it turned out from domestic to rental thus enabling me to have a source of income that will aid my family.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
When I withdrew the money, the agenda was to complete my house which I had already started. I invested all the first transfer in buying the required materials for construction. Later on when the house was almost to completion I had several request from tenants who were coming to ask whether I can rent for them. I figured the requests and decided to convert it from a domestic house to a rental house so that it could serve as a source of income. As at now, though I am still finalizing on it but already I have taken deposits from tenants who are waiting to come in.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means building a permanent house for me. I am living in a one bedroom house which is not spacious for my family. I started building a two bedroom house but due to lack of finance ,the project has stopped. I will use KES 35000 to complete my house. I will use KES 60000 to build a house for business at the town center. I will use the remaining KES 15000 to buy welding machine for business.
What is the happiest part of your day?
World vision organization build a maternity wing at the Midoina hospital last two months. As a masonry, I got a job for one month that has made my family have food. The job I got brought happiness to me.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
I am a masonry by profession. When Covid-19 came to our country in 2021, I was very much affected because since then upto now , I have never found any reliable job. My family has gone without food for some days. Lack of job is the current challenge our facing.
