How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I went to school and undertook a catering course which I believe was an additional knowledge on my side. Apart from that, I can also say that my business has been an eye-opener and a great way of making tremendous changes in my life because currently, I can easily take care of my own financial needs without depending on another person.
Do you have any new or additional goals for your life?
I have a new goal of buying a small piece of land where I will eventually build a house one day God willing. I have identified certain areas within Makueni county where pieces of land are sold at affordable prices, and I think this could be a good opportunity for me to buy a small piece of land and later build rental houses when I will have enough finances.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent the last transfers on buying bale stock of clothes which I have been selling ever since I got the first transfers. I have been shifting from different types of clothes because so far I have not yet determined the exact types of clothes that sell so much as compared to the others. I believe that once I get the correct formulae then my things will get to the right track.

How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is now different in that I now depend on myself. I have my own income from my business and I no longer have to depend on my aunt whom I lived with. I will also find my own place and move out to my house.
Do you have any new or additional goals for your life?
My new goal is to purchase a piece of land from my coming transfers and also from the proceeds I get from my business. I hope to one day build a home on this piece of land that I will purchase.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent my most recent transfer to expand my clothes business. I sell second hand clothes in Embakasi West ward along Pipeline Estate just by the road near the railway lines. I started out by assisting my cousin with her business in the same place, whereby she would pay me a small stipend at the end of every month. I used to sell for her children's clothing. I assisted my cousin for about two months before I received my transfers and started my own clothes business just near where she sells hers. I bought some denim trousers with my first transfers from Gikomba market and resold them at the same place. I expanded this business with my second transfers by purchasing a whole bale of denim trousers at 30000 KES. My business has been doing well since I first started.

Do you have any new goals that you didn't have before receiving the transfer?
I am planning to save most of the profits that I make from this business, combine it with the next two transfers and purchase a piece of land back in my rural home for future agricultural activities such as poultry and dairy farming.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
My life has greatly changed ever since I received the money as I have managed to start my own business which has doubled my income compared to what I earned before when I was employed. Now that I am self employed,I also have lots of flexibility as I decide when to leave my house which has given me more time to bond with my family.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I have been working for my cousin for the past one year as a clothes salesperson, so when I received the money, I decided to start my own business. This was pretty easy for me because I have the experience on what types of clothes to sell at a particular time of the year, the right pricing for maximum profits and even where to get the most affordable stock. I am happy to say that so far, I have made a profit of 3000KES, all thanks to the experience I have gained working for my cousin. I saved the rest of the money in a Sacco for future plans.
Describe the moment when you started receiving transfers. How did you feel?
Saying that I was happy when I received the money is an understatement, I was way too excited that no word can actually describe what I felt. After calming down, I asked my family members to join me in prayer to thank God for such a gift then ask for His wisdom on how to spend the money appropriately to change our louves positively.

What do you plan to do with the cash transfer?
I prioritize business establishment because it will generate profits that i will save and they will grow. I would love to buy a piece of land that to me will act as a bank. After 2-3year, the value of this land will have appreciated. I will sell it then buy my own and build a permanent home for myself.
Thirdly, I would love to help my siblings through school by paying their school fees. I too have been blessed and helped by Give Directly and will like to help out my siblings since i believe the hand that gives is better than the hand that receives.
Describe your biggest worry.
My top concern is achieving my ambition because i know i have a purpose in life and would like to accomplish that which God created me to do. The uncertanties of not knowing if today or what am set to do will help me realize my ambition scares me off.
What are your greatest ambitions?
I want to be my own boss. I desire to own a very big restruant and bakery. I want to be the main chef and baker due to my love for cooking and cakes. This is all secondary to the fact that I want my own business since I wish to create job opportunities to the youths.
Describe your usual day. How do you spend your time?
I wake up in the morning, say a prayer, groom up then take my breakfast and rush to work at Embakasi. I return home at 6pm, take my supper, shower and if there are any pending chores i do them and sleep.
I love cooking. I use most of my free time googling recipes and trying them out.
