What do you plan to do with the cash transfer?
I am a widow living with my five grand children. Their mother works at Mombasa and she rarely comes home. I live in my son's house since my house was demolished by heavy rains last year. It is culturally wrong to live in a son's house who also has a family. This has lowered my dignity in the village. I do casual jobs making $20 per month which caters for food and other domestic needs. I lack the capacity to build a house . I will use $700 to build a two room house and equip it with bedding. The house will restore my respect in the village. I will also use $300 to buy six goats as an investment. I currently do not have one so in an event of an emergency then I am stuck.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I have gone without food for such a long time. I take a meal per day or go without any food for even three days. I do casual jobs and most of the time I do not secure any job. However, on 1st January this year, my first came to visit me and had a joint celebration. They slaughtered a goat and lots of delicious foods were cooked. It was a great day since everyone enjoyed including myself. Having a family coming together and celebrating together brings joy in my life.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Housing is the challenge I am currently facing in life. I am a widow living in my son's house who also has a wife. Living in my son's house is against our culture. My house was demolished by rains last year leaving me in the cold. It was a very tough moment that forced me to go against the culture and seek shelter in my son's house. Currently my dignity in the society is low due to lack of house.
