How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My name is Tonia Kiamukia. Before GIVEDIRECTLY could come here to start sending us money, I didn't even have the thought of renovating my home. As you can see, all of the sticks and cement have gotten rotten and fallen off the house. Since I started receiving the transfer, my new goal now is to renovate my house.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GIVEDIRECTLY is doing everything well. There's nothing that I see that GIVEDIRECTLY is not doing well in.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I'm going to spend my transfer on paying for my daughter high school graduation fees. I'm going to spend some of my transfer on buying more goods for my existing business.

How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I want to fix my house because the house is not in a good condition anymore, I also want to continue sponsoring my two children and they can graduate and get better jobs in the future.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly is a good organization because they are helping us unconditionally without any third party being involved, they are also kind in talking to me anytime I am being interviewed. I don't have anything bad thing to say about GiveDirectly.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I used my second transfer to buy zinc and some building materials to start fixing my house, I also used some of the money to pay my two children school fees and the remaining amount was used to buy food for my family.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I planned to use my transfer to renovate my house. The zinc you are seeking over the house is old and water can penetrate when ever the rain comes down. Just recently, the storm removed some of the sticks so the leakage is too much now. All the sticks over the house are all rotten but no finance until God directed GiveDirectly to this town. We have been working towards the renovations work over the past years now but have been been unable to generate the finances. Can you imagine, our only source of income is cassava and cassava products but the price now on the market has dropped.
What is the happiest part of your day?
What brought me joy and happiness is the time my son got promotion to 7th grade on the 30Th of August 2021. I was very impressed by his performance and even danced in the town, but I did not give him gifts so I asked him for forgiveness as well. When David is educated he will be helpful to us in the future. Another joyous day is today when I heard from your town hall meeting that GiveDirectly with support from various donors around the world is here to help us with cash. The happy part is that the cash is a grant that we can spend it the way we want.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
My main challenge now is finance because when the cash is available, we can buy food, send our children to school and even renovate our house. Apart from finances, our main challenge is my spouse sickness. I have to do everything now, can you imagine a lady feeding the household and at the same time carrying out the farming activities? It is really challenging because we have to eat everyday. If I am eligible to receive the transfer, I believe that my problems will be solved.
