Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was at home when a message popped up on my phone. Since I can’t read, I asked my son to check it for me, and he confirmed that GiveDirectly had sent $180. I was overwhelmed with happiness and gratitude, and my first thought was to use it to buy food for our family.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my life since receiving $180 from GiveDirectly has been the comfort and relief it brought during a tough time. Being unwell and unable to support my family was difficult, but this money allowed me to provide food for my family and bring comfort into our home. With $45, I bought food, which ensured we all had enough to eat and helped us stay healthy and energized. I also bought essential furniture, including a bed, mattress, and plastic chairs, which not only improved our home but gave me a comfortable place to rest and recover. This comfort has helped me heal faster, and I feel stronger each day. I’m deeply thankful to GiveDirectly for bringing this positive change into our lives.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
When I received $180 from GiveDirectly, I felt a deep sense of relief and happiness, as this money arrived at a very difficult time. I was unwell and unable to provide for my family, so this support was a true blessing. I used $45 to buy food, ensuring that my family had enough to eat, which brought us comfort and energy. I then used $120 to buy essential household furniture, including a bed, mattress, and plastic chairs. This addition not only brought comfort to our home but also improved our overall well-being as a family. Having a comfortable bed and mattress has been especially helpful for my healing. I used the remaining money to pay for my medication, and now I am feeling stronger each day. I am immensely grateful to GiveDirectly for this support, which has made a positive difference in our lives.

What do you plan to do with the cash transfer?
The primary challenge iam facing is the inability to provide sufficient food for my children due to a lack of resources and the physical strength to seek work. Additionally, our one-room house is insufficient to accommodate my entire family, and we lack support mechanisms in times of emergency. Therefore, the GiveDirectly cash transfer will be a lifeline for us. I plan to stock up on food to ensure my family can live happily and comfortably. I also intend to build a proper house for my children, so they no longer have to seek shelter with neighbors at night. With the remaining funds, I will invest in livestock to secure a stable future for my family.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Living positively with my children brings me the greatest joy, despite all the challenges I have faced.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
I am currently facing significant challenges, primarily due to a lack of financial resources to support my family. With no steady income to meet our basic needs, we struggle daily. My situation worsened after a road accident left me partially paralyzed, rendering me unable to work. Now, we rely solely on my eldest son to provide for our sustenance.
