How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is much better now because I had a lot of debts that I accrued when my daughter passed on. I did not have any financial support at that time. I am grateful that GiveDirectly chose to send us the cash transfers. In addition to this, I have paid school fees for my children. This would not have been possible had I not received these cash transfers.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly does so far so well to support the people financially. The beauty is that they do not impose conditions on the cash transfers. I appreciate the fact that the staff do not condone bribery.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent the second cash transfer to clear the debts incurred when I lost my daughter. The remaining balance of the cash transfer was spent on purchasing construction materials to complete the house and paying the builders.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference is that I have paid all my pressing debts and I feel empowered financially. I look forward to complete the renovating the permanent house that was incomplete. I had no money to complete the house and on top of that I had very many family mishaps that stressed me. I am now happy that the cash transfer has empowered me. I thank GiveDirectly that chose to send me this cash transfer.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I received the cash transfer at night. I was asleep then but the phone woke me up. However, I did not read it that very moment. Early in the morning, I overheard my neighbours jubilating that they had received money from GiveDirectly. This compelled me to check my phone and indeed it was real. I felt very happy and excited. I remember dancing to myself joyfiully. I knew this transfer was going to settle my debts.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent UGX 400000 to pay a debt and UGX UGX 260000 to purchase cement. I am planning to spend the balance on purchasing more construction materials.

Recieving this means that my life will change in the way that I will be able to fill in the gaps such as completing my house and make it more decent for my living, educate my children and also get back the land I morgaged when I picked up alone. These challenges have been stressing my life.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the afternoon when I have successfully evaluated what I have done with the fact that I stay alone with my children.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship is that I am facing a challenge of raising these children since my wife divorced me.Sometimes I have to be around home taking care of the children which in most cases limits me at engaging in productive activities to earn money. This is even worse when any of them is sick, It limits my movements.
