How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My goal previously was for me to initiate a goat rearing project, which I am happy to have achieved courtesy of the transfer that I received, at the moment I don't have any new goals, instead I want to concentrate on the goat rearing business which I am hopeful that I will be able to earn an income from it soon.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly is at the top of the bar in its operations, I am lucky to be among the beneficiaries of the unconditional transfers, thus I am forever grateful. In my opinion, the transfer should be dispersed in lumpsum where a recipient can receive a total of KES 110,000 at once, I believe that this will ease the budgeting processes.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I work as a charcoal vendor in the village, I am blessed with seven children, upon receiving the transfer my main goal was for me to start a goat rearing business so that I would be able to provide for the necessities of my family, especially my children's school fees, therefore I used KES 42,000 in acquiring 15 goats, I was unable to initiate the project before due to financial constraints. I am happy that finally my prayers have been answered, I then used the remaining amount in buying beddings and clothes for my family members.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was so happy the moment I received the money because it was something I did not have and desired to have, therefore, I was so happy when I got it. It helped me address the challenges I was facing and neither had the ability nor means to address them.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I used to a lot to even meet my family's immediate needs, which is basically the daily meals which I was able to address the moment I started receiving money from GiveDirectly. I was able to build a better and safer roof for my family and got goats that will continuously give me the ability to address the challenges I will be facing in the future. All thanks to GiveDirectly.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent most of my transfer which was KES 12000 to repair the roof of my house because it was leaking terribly bad due to it having been made of old and worn out iron sheets and poles, which was even a risk to the life of my family and myself because it could collapse anytime and be disastrous. This used to give me so much headache and sleepless nights. However, I am now so happy and grateful that I was able to address and my mind and heart are at peace now. I also spent KES 10000 on buying five goats because they are an investment that will live on and will give me the ability to educate my children in the future because I know that they will multiply and increase in numbers, and inturn I'll be able to sell one or two and pay my children's school fees because I believe that education is the biggest investment for the future. I am so happy and grateful to GiveDirectly.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I have been daily struggling to feed my family for 5 years now. Our land is fertile but there is no rainfall and currently I have adopted cutting trees for charcoal burning as the main activity in order to have a daily meal with my family. I am tired of doing this straneous work and I have been dreaming of starting my own retail shop business of selling household goods in my area, but because of the prevailing situation of the economy, I cannot save money to start my business. Receiving this money means I will start my business here in our compound. I see the shops are very far from here and starting this business, I will get good profits because the homestead is big with alot of customers. I will spend 70,000 KES to start the business, 20,000 KES to prepare a room in my house as a shop and 20,000 KES to pay for my children's school fees.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My happiest part of the day is in the evening when I am resting from my job and enjoying my food with my family.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
My biggest hardship is getting daily meals for my family because the charcoal buyers are unreliable and some times it's hard to get them and sometimes this makes my family going to bed hungry.
