How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Life would have been very different had I not received the transfers. I would not have been able to find money to build a new house and put an iron sheet roof on it. For many years I have relied on piece work for my day to day survival and receiving k2000 at the end of each day was not enough to buy food as well as to save money for the house project. I am now happy as I will have an iron sheet roofed house very soon. I have also managed to buy food myself as I stay alone and that now I stay a happy life thanks to the transfers I received.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly do well by giving out the money directly to us as beneficiaries and not involving chiefs to be involved in distributing the transfers as is the case with other social cash transfers. Once the chiefs are involved, some malpractices such as corruption and favoritism are involved resulting in other very needy people being left out not receiving the transfers. In my opinion, there is nothing which GiveDirectly does not do well.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I am planning to spend my sending transfers on building a new house. After receiving the first transfers, I used the money to buy iron sheets and to mould bricks in readiness for my project to build the new house. With the second transfers, I will be able to pay the builder who will build the house for me. I will also use the money to buy window and door flames so that I should have a beautiful house. I no longer want to be sleeping in a glass thatched house I have been sleeping for many years.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I have never ever had so much money in my life that when I receive it I will make sure I build a much better house for myself as the one I have is muddy and grass thatched that it badly leaks during heavy rains
What is the happiest part of your day?
I am happiest whenever I can afford to go and watch a soccer match anywhere
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
I do not have a proper house which badly leaks during heavy rains and that makes it very difficult for me to sleep comfortably when it is raining
