How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life has improved because through these cash tranafer, I paid tution for my son who is in nursing school. Secondly, soon I will move to my permanent house that is after I have fixed wondows and doors. Before, I sold off some of my farm land and depended on farming to get fees.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion GiveDirectly has done well by supporting me pay fees for my son who is in nursing school and build a permanent house.

I bought building materials ( iron sheets, nails, 3 bags of cement and timber), paid labour and bought food.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
My life is much different in that I have cleared tuition which was bothering me alot. My son is the happiest after I cleared that debt.
More so, I was able to start up the construction of a one roomed house which is at the ring beam level.
Previously, I was living in an old dilapidated thatched house which was hard to maintain.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was awake when the money was sent that night. I heard shouts of joy from my neighborhood, this compelled me to check my phone, I was the happiest that day because I had no money to fulfill my obligations.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I paid school fees for my son worth UGX 600000. I purchased bricks worth UGX 1000000 and UGX 100000 was spent on paying the builders.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this means that my son's education needs will be taken care of.
My son just joined the Mbale School of Nursing and Midwifery to persue a course.
I have been wondering if he will have the opportunity to finish and finally graduate but now I have the answer.
I believe these transfers will enable me to put him at a level in which he can concentrate better and earn better results.
I am really hopping for the best in him.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I am happiest in the evening when I am drinking local brew at the centre with other men.
With this, I am able to relax and even forget of some troubles.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship that I am faced with is inadequacy of farm land.
The piece of land that I have is too small to support farming.
This results into low yield which can not support the family the fact that prices of agricultural products are also so low.
The more I work, the less I gain because of the low market prices.
