How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different than how it would have been if I never received the transfers in that I have purchased a heifer. I always buy milk from my neighbors and it's so costly for me. I do not have a continuous source of income. I depend on small scale farming and businesses to earn an income. The small harvest that I get is only for consumption. Currently I have a heifer when it reproduce I will be able to get milk for my family. I will cut the daily cost of buying milk daily and invest on other projects. I will sell the surplus at the market to earn an income to meet other basic household needs. I am so grateful for the support because GiveDirectly has changed my living standard.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion GiveDirectly does well by giving money to the poor in the community to build better houses and to pay school fees for their children. I do not find anything that GiveDirectly did not do well.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent part of the money I received from GiveDirectly on purchasing a heifer. I buy milk everyday and it's so costly for me. This will cut the daily cost when it reproduce. I also bought sofa sets. The rest of the money I used it for medical for my child who was unwell and admitted. I am so happy because GiveDirectly has changed my living standard.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I still remember that day vividly, the 17th December 2020 at around 1pm while taking lunch with my family. It's lwhen I heard a message alert on my phone and upon checking it was the GiveDirectly transfers. We were overwhelmed with with joy and even lost appetite.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is starting my own clothes business which I had desired for the past three years but couldn't afford. From the business I now an earn a better income compared to the milk business I had before. There is also peace in my house because we both have an income. Before, I used to stress up because we couldn't meet household needs sometimes. I am also very happy because the transfers have ensured food adequacy unlike before when we used to run out of food. My family has also grown healthier and happier than before and I am very grateful to GiveDirectly.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent KES 20,000 as capital for my panties and sandals business .This is a long-term investment for payment of school fees for my kids in the near future. I also spent KES 5000 on a sheep because it grows fast and when it multiplies it can help boost my business. I also spent KES 2000 on larger cooking pots because earlier on I had smaller ones. I also spent KES 2000 on food and households items to sustain my family. I also spent KES 3000 on latest clothing fashion because initially we used to rely on second hand clothes. I have also saved the remaining for the medication of my kid who needs special medical attention.
