How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I was not owning in a decent shelter and comfortable beddings, But after receiving my transfer I have great improvement in that I was able to build a spacious house. Most importantly, I was able to get proper medical care so my husband and is recovering at the moment.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly did so well by giving us the transfers which helped me to seek medical care for my husband. On my part, I don't see anything wrong with this program.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent $100 my second transfer to seek medical care for my husband who was receiving stroke treatment. Also, I purchased a bed and mattress for $12 this is because we were using the traditional beddings before which are not comfortable to sleep on. I spent the remaining amount to complete the constitution of my house which I had started earlier but stopped due to insufficient finances. I also bought food stock for my family.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was excactoly12:30 when I was from the dam then I heard some of my neighbors celebrating and praising God at the same time mentioning GiveDirectly. I became curious and asked one of them what the matter was. Then she told me that they had received their first transfers. On hearing this, I decided to rush home and checked my phone as well. But before I could get home I heard my spouse and children celebrating as well. I felt so happy after realizing that I had also received the cash transfers.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I am now a proud owner of a spacious decent house. I have been struggling to get the required materials for the construction of the new hue but I could not succeed. Therefore I had no option other than squeezing in the small house which had a single room. This was so stressful and there was no privacy at all. someone could see whatever we're doing from outside. In a scenario whereby one pays me a visit, it was so embarrassing becasue of the condition of the house. I am currently glad becasue I am sleeping in a very decent house with several rooms that can accommodate all my family members which makes me proud. I would not have achieved all these if it were not for the financial support from GiveDirectly
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent part of my first transfer on buying some building material such as iron sheets, building poles, nails, thread, and timber. I purchased all these with the intention of constructing a new spacious since the previous one was small and in poor condition. I also used KES 15000 of the transfer to pay the Masson as his labor fee. With the remaining amount of money, I bought sufficient foodstuffs for my family

What does receiving this money mean to you?
My ambition has been to purchase a motorcycle taxi for business, but due to financial challenges, this dream has never been fulfilled. Receiving this money means filling it I am planning to spend all the transfer to purchase it. This is going to generate income for my family. In a month, I can make 15000 shillings. This amount is enough to sustain all the basic needs of my family. Approximately, my family spends 10,000 shillings for their basic needs such as food. I will save the remaining amount for our future life.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Morning is my happiest part of the day, because it is at this time when I am more energetic and I can work. Rather than in the evening when I cannot work.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
My biggest hardship is the lack of a reliable source of income. This has hindered me from meeting my daily needs such as food. Something that has stressed me a lot. I am a casual laborer who does casual jobs at our nearby center. In a day I make at least 200 shillings this amount is not enough to meet my family needs such as food.
