How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different than how it would have been if I never received the transfers in that I have paid school fees for my children in university. I depend on small scale farming and also small business to earn an income to meet other basic household needs including paying school fees for my children in various schools. This was so hard because the school fees for the children in university is very expensive. I was so stress up because I didn't want my children to defer their studies. One of my children has graduated and I am so happy because were it not for GiveDirectly it's could not have happened. I am so much grateful for the support because GiveDirectly has changed our living standard and given us hope to work hard.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion GiveDirectly does well by giving money to the poor in the community to build better houses and to buy dairy cows. I do not find anything that GiveDirectly did not do well.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent part of the money I received from GiveDirectly to pay part of the school fees for my two children in various schools, I also spent some on medication and the rest of the money I used it to buy food for the family.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I had just woken up to check the time on my phone when I saw a message on my phone. I wondered who had texted me that early and upon checking , it was GiveDirectly transfer and I jumped out of bed and jumped up and down with excitement.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
My son has been able to clear his fees and sit for his exams. I had been thinking where I was going to get the money to pay his school fees so that he sits his exams. I trusted that God was going to come through and this happened through GiveDirectly.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I paid my son's school fees who is in campus on a self sponsored program to enable him sit for his exams. I also bought a heifer, a bag of maize and a few iron sheets to build a house when I get the next transfer.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means I will not struggle paying $700 school fees for my son who is joining his fourth year in campus next year. I will then use the remaining $300 to buy a dairy cow that will enable me save $0.6 daily that I usually spend in buying milk for my family consumption.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Being the sole bread winner of my family, waking up each day feeling energetic enough to go looking for work to do is the happiest part of my day.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Imagine a 62 year old woman engaging in casual jobs such as fetching firewood for sale, tilling people's farms as well as going 10 trips daily to the river 2.5 kilometres away, to fetch water that I supply to a school nearby in order to earn some income amounting to $200 daily! Thats the story of my life. I do all these jobs to build up savings that has seen me educating my four children to the university level. My health is deteriorating daily and since I no longer have much strength to do these jobs, I have ended up selling five cattle and 15 goats that my late husband lleft me with, since I belief education is the greatest support I can offer my children. The only option I was left with is selling 2 acres of land next year to clear school fees for my son in campus but Give Directly has come in handy to support me.
