How is your life currently different from how it was four months ago?
My life is currently different from the way it was four months ago in that I got an improved harvest this season which has made life easier. This is because through the transfers I got from Give Directly I was able to cultivate a bigger portion of my farm which led to improved harvest. Nowadays whenever I don't have money I can easily sell a few tins of the maize or beans instead of taking loans. Thanks to GD for making this happen. I am planning to keep most of the sacks I got until when the grains are out of season. I know I will get good money and do something tangible with it.
Do you have any new or additional goals for your life for the next four months?
Currently, I'm staying in my dad's home. I always feel I'm under pressure because at my age I should be having my own home. I have a family also and my children have grown. They are past the adolescent stage which means they will soon need space where they construct their houses. I, therefore, have an additional goal to save the coming transfers and purchase the building materials which I'll use while constructing my home in my own compound.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life in the last four months preceding the current transfer.
The last four months have been easy in terms of meeting financial needs. The transfers I have been receiving from GiveDirectly have helped me a lot in meeting some of these demands on time. Previously, I couldn't afford to facilitate activities such as hiring laborers to plow my farm therefore in most cases, I would work on it on my own. This was not efficient because I ended up cultivating a small piece of farm. I would then get a very low harvest. I'm glad that through transfers I get from GiveDirectly, I was able to cultivate a three-acre farm which led to an improved harvest last season.
How do you expect your life to change in the next six months?
I'm currently saving some money for purchasing building materials that I'll use to construct my home. Staying at my parent's home with my age makes me uncomfortable. Neighbors have called me names and I have lost respect due to this. In the next six months, I believe that I'll have saved enough money and constructed my home. This will make me more independent, regain both my respect and honor back.
