How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Before I got the cash transfers from GD, I used to entirely rely on the odd jobs that are offered within the village with very insignificant pay at the end of each day. However, things are quite different today because I went and did a course in masonry and graduated with a diploma in the same so today I get jobs under official contracts which makes my work-flow and cash-flow quite consistent.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
I am proud of this organization because it helps the poor realize some of their dreams especially people like myself who never had financial abilities to achieve some of the life dreams that we had. On the flipside, I would say that I have not witnessed anything negative about the organization's operations.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I used the money to pay my own school fees for a masonry course where I graduated with a diploma certificate in Mansory. So today I can comfortably depend on my profession as a source of income which keeps my family going from day-to-day. The second transfers went into starting a small scale for my wife where she sells dagga within the locality. We also bought sofa-sets since we always had the desire to have them but the only thing that was stopping is the unavailability of finances.
