How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Life would have been very different had I not received the transfers. I would not have managed to find money to buy iron sheets to put a roof on my house which I built in 2018. All these years, farming has been my source of income but at the end of each farming season I do not have any benefit. Most of the traders buy our produces at a maximum of k7000 which is not enough for me to sell part of my little harvest so that I buy iron sheets. Being part of the beneficiaries meant that I will be able to fulfil of sleeping in an iron sheets roofed house. Receiving the transfers has transformed my life as I now have enough food at home for my family of 5 people. All in all, life would have been very different had I not received the transfers. My family would have been very poor and I would have continued sleeping in a glass thatched house. May God bless you.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly do well by giving out social cash transfers to the poor. These transfers have helped us a lot to improve our day to day lives as we are advised to use the money on things such as building houses and buying household items such as blankets and beds and not using it on beer and other bad things. This is a good thing and GiveDirectly should continue doing this so that other people who are poor should also see their lives transformed. In my opinion, there is nothing done by GiveDirectly which is not done well.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I bought roofing materials. I have saved 185000....to improve on my old house I used the money I received to buy roofing materials such as nails, wires and roofing poles to improve my old house which I built in 2018 but lacked money to buy iron sheets for the house. I have also kept k185000 so that I should be able to buy anything that will be need when they will be putting the iron sheet roof on my house.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I am a person who engages in subsistence farming together with my husband. Over the years, I have always had challenges to produce more food which will last until the other farming season. This is so as despite having a huge land,we usually lack enough to cultivate more land, adequate fertilizer, rear some livestock along other needs. Hence this money will help us acquire some extra labour and inputs which will help us to harvest more in the next farming season. This house too needs some renovation to fix the floor, windows and paint it to look beautiful again. I am very positive this money will change our family for the better.
What is the happiest part of your day?
As a proud grandparent,I am happy to have my grandchildren with me in the afternoon after a long day doing household chores. This gives me joy as it reminds me of my childhood days with my own grandmother.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
My biggest hardship will always be lack of additional resources for me to have enough food and have some to sell. This is so as the lands are huge and requires more fertilizer and labour to harvest more. Hence, we always fail since we do the farming alone. This always puts a strain on the family each farming season and we end up burning out frequently due to overworking and end up getting sick sometimes.
