How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Having a constant source of income has been the greatest change and difference in my life. I used to work for others in their businesses where my earnings were hardly sufficient for my basic daily needs to let alone saving. However, with my own motorcycle, I do a business every day that helps me to meet my needs and also save. Meeting every one of my daily needs has greatly improved the quality of my life. Fancy clothes and enough and nutritious meals that had been only a dream is now a reality. I can afford all these because of the good decision I made to run a motorcycle taxi when GiveDirectly gave me the transfers.
Do you have any new or additional goals for your life?
My additional goal is to save more towards improving my living standards. I will save part of the proceeds that I get from the taxi business so that I can secure the business and also have more to use if I get to a low season in the business.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I was very happy upon receiving my recent transfer. I had always dreamt of owning my own motorbike. The taxi business that I can do with this motorcycle would be a life changer. Very many young people in my neighborhood have made a decent living for themselves using the business. This made me admire them and also knew that I can only be able like them If I purchased one fo my own. As soon as I got the transfer, I already knew what exactly to buy and where. This has become a constant source of income for me.

How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is currently different in that I now have a house in my rural home. I can now walk proudly as a man in my home as I have my own house now.
Do you have any new or additional goals for your life?
My new goal is to purchase a motorbike to use it for transport business. I hope to get into the transport services industry, as I feel that it is a business that is reliable and it can earn me good money on a daily basis.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent my most recent transfer to build a house in my rural home in Migori county. I used my transfers to build a house because it is a requirement in my culture that a male child of my age should have built his own house. I have a wife and a child but I had never built my own house. I used to stay at my elder brother's house with my family. This was humiliating to me at times as I felt like I had failed my family in a way. I work for my youth group project as a garbage collector. I do not make enough money to enable me to build my own house. I was forced to stay at my brother's place with my family. I now feel proud of myself that I can finally have my own house in my rural home.

Do you have any new goals that you didn't have before receiving the transfer?
The only goal I now have is to buy a motorcycle which I will be using to carry people. I prefer this work since customers are many and available most of the time. This work also fetches more money and its something I have done before and I am well conversant with it.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
I nowadays live happily. When I get out of my house in the morning to look for some work to do and come back in the evening with even 100 KES, I am assured that my family will not lack food for the evening and the following day. This is because my wife supports me using the money she gets from her grocery business unlike before when I was the only breadwinner.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent part of my transfers to buy a bed. I have been sleeping on the floor and I have a small child. I have not been comfortable with it since its cold at night and the child might become sick. Secondly, I paid my rent since it was end month and I had not paid my rent. I also used part of it to repay a loan which I had since it was already overdue by two weeks. Since my wife has been a housewife, I gave her some amount to use in starting a small business so that she can also keep herself busy during the day.
Describe the moment when you started receiving transfers. How did you feel?
In my life, I have never received such a huge amount of money and I was shocked when I received my transfer. I also thought that GiveDirectly would first call me before sending the money.

What do you plan to do with the cash transfer?
I would like to buy a motorcycle for my boda boda business since it's a good investment plan that will earn me good profit. I will then be able to pay my rent arrears and also in advance. I will also clear the medical bills of my child that and get the document I left there as security when he was born and was unable to pay for bills.
Describe your biggest worry.
I do worry a lot about my family especially the health status of child who has been sickling a lot. Getting better medical attention has been a problem. I also worry a lot about my house because most of the times I am unable to clear my rent arrears. I also worry about unemployment since I am a casual labourer that today I may get job and small money but tomorrow nothing and few days again.
What are your greatest ambitions?
My ambition is in to be a successful business man and alleviate poverty in my family.I would love to see my children going to better school and my family leaving happily.
Describe your usual day. How do you spend your time?
In a normal day I do casual jobs mainly garbage collection and working in construction sites whenever there is construction going on. While at my frree time I play football and watch movies.
