How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My hope in the coming year is to become a self reliant in terms of supporting my family. In addition to that, I hope to by next year my social economic category will change. I hope to see my kids growing healthy and gratuating from school.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly does well in giving people the ability to have a fincancial capacity we didn't expect in our life. We now have some longterms items and properties from the transfers. I think Givedirectly is the heaven sent.
Something to be done better is just to keep impacting lives of people who are very are isolated in poorest corners of the country.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
From the transfers received from GiveDirectly, I firstly purchased a cow ( at $350) so that I will be able to have milk for my kids and manure to enriche plants. Moroever, with the transfer, I was able to buy a land at $500 in order to expand my cultivation and the harvest. I also bought food for my family, clothes and other missing home materials that will be helping in carrying and keeping water during dry season. Before, I used to struggle on getting cash to pay my health insurance, but after getting the transfers, I paid it. Now entire family are secured with health insurance.

What do you plan to do with the cash transfer?
The first thing we are planning to do is to buy a piece of land for agriculture activities so that we can have where we can grow our food crops without cultivating for others and it will help us to have enough food at home. The land will cost $300. The other thing is to renew our house , we will cover it with sand and cement and it will cost $100. We will also buy some household items such as chairs and table for seating room, beds and mattresses. They will cost in total $200. In addition, we will buy pig because it will support us in the case of emergency when money needed, we will have to sell them in order to get the money in need. The pig will cost $50. The rest of money will be used to buy clothes and food. The clothes will cost $100 and food will cost $100.
What is the happiest part of your day?
There's nothing I can remember that happened in the last 6 months, but normally when we have something to eat at home I feel happy and grateful. "Let's say that we have planted food crops and get some production even if it may not be enough but at least we know that we have something. The same as when we have some money to buy food at the market, I feel happy because I have hope that we will have some food on the plate". Said recipient. "The other thing that bring joy into our hearts is when you wake up and go to say hello to our children, when I see that my children has got their family I feel happy and blessed as they are now my neighbours." Said the husband.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The main challenge we are facing is that we don't have land for agriculture, therefore the insufficient food at home and we don't have money to buy the food stuffs we need. We normally eat once per day because it's hard to have enough food that can allow us to eat at least twice per day. I can say that it's because of poverty, you can see in our house, we have no chair, imagine if we have another guest we can't find a seat for them, it's a challenge. Poverty is the main challenge we have because if we can get money, we would not face all of these problems.
