Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
Prior to receiving this transfer, the wall of my house had been weakened by the rains because it was made of mud with bricks and the floor too was dusty. They are currently plastering my house and cementing the floor. Once the construction work is complete, I expect to sleep in a clean house free from dust and the wall will not be washed by rain anymore. Secondly, I have been in position to hire an additional piece of land that will enable me produce enough food to support my family. Unlike before when I had only one piece of land that couldn't produce enough food for the family.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I heard a message notification from my phone, I went a head to cross check and it was a mobile money message from GiveDirectly. I became very happy because I had got money that I would use for plastering my house.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent my first transfer to purchase 20 bags of cement, 2 trips of sand, a bed, mattress, clothes, 3 hand hoes, hired land and paid construction workers. I have not yet spent UGX 300,000 but I am planning to spend it for hiring land.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means I will be able to complete the construction of my house, buy a piece of land for cultivation and some household items.
These will make my home a better place.

I am happiest in the evening when my children are playing.

What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship that I am faced with is sickness.
Of late, my husband started to feel pain on his chest and stomach. He can not work as he has been doing because of the pain that he is going through.
To this end, he has not got any treatment because there is no money to take of the medical bills.
I feel a lot is lacking at home because of his sicknes.
Feeding itself is hard.
