How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different than how it would have been had I not received the transfer because I have been able to transform my house into a semipermanent one. Due to this, my wife will not be applying mud on the walls anymore. Also, my heart is now settled as I know that the house we are currently living in is more durable compared to the previous one.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my own opinion, GiveDirectly did well by enrolling everyone in our village and I do not see anything that they did not do well.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent my second transfer in building a house for my family. We were living in an old house and its roof had started rusting. It had always been my desire not only to renovate the roof but to also make it more permanent. I spent the remaining amount to buy food for my family.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
Building a decent house for my family had been my desired goal for so long but I had not been able to fulfill it due to a lack of finances. Seeing how old our house was and how tired my wife and children were after walking for a long distance looking for clay used to shatter my heart into pieces. GiveDiverectlys transfer enabled me to achieve my dream of building a decent house and I am now a happy and contented person. Currently, I can proudly say that my life is different from how it was before and even people who had seen my previous house can attest to this.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was a few minutes past 5 am when I received a message alert on my phone. Since I was awake at that time, I decided to read its contents and know who the sender was because I had never received a message at such an hour before. I became so happy after reading the Mpesa message and I immediately informed my family and they were all equally happy upon hearing of the good news. I knew that my plans would finally be fulfilled.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
When I received my first transfer, I decided to use all the amount to build a decent house for my family. I bought 24 pieces of iron sheets, nails, timber and also paid a mason the full cost of building this house. We settled on this as a family since the one we were living in was old and its roof had started leaking during the rainy season. I am now glad since my wife will not be walking for a long distance looking for clay to dust the house.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money will enable me renew the iron roofing of my house.Am a trained community health worker and most of the time we emphasize to members of our community on the importance of drinking clean water. The rain water I collect is no longer safe to drink because the iron roof has rusted.I need to lead by example so I will renew this as well as buy a water tank so I can store clean rain water to drink.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the morning. This is the time I wake up to start my day's work in the farm.My family depends on this effort I put in every morning. This makes me happy because all through the years, I have been able to work hard as each day begins in order to meet the needs of my family. This gives me fulfilment as the head of the household.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I have faced is raising my family and meeting all their needs without a source of income.I depend on farming which is mostly unreliable due to changing climatic conditions.Inadequate rains have resulted in poor harvests over a few years and this has greatly us.What the farm produces is no longer enough to feed my family as well as provide an income through its sales.
