What does receiving this money mean to you?
As you can see my house is lacking so much. I need iron sheets, bricks and decent wood for real doors. It is not only my house that is in need, my children are in much bigger need as they never have enough food to eat. Recieving this money means that I will finally be able to feed my children while taling care of tbwor day to day needs consistently. Here we sometimes sleep hungry because food is hard to find. There are days when business just does not go as planned and if I am to get sick even for just a day, I together with my children starve unless one of our neighbours is kind enough to share us some maize flour which is hard at times as my neighbours are experiencing problems similar to my own. Right now mango season is upon us so we will boil mangoes as our main meal but once the season is over we go completely foodless.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Not much has brought me happiness in the recent months to be honest. Afterall how can I be happy with all my problems drowning me? However, I really came close to happiness when the members of my mosque shared me maize to eat with my children after they found out that we had all been sleeping on empty stomachs days in a row. Shortly after that, another member gave me K1500. This made me so happy and I bought more maize with that money. I was so grateful and in disbilief.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
It has been 8 months since I lost my husband so I worry all the time these days. It was easier when I had my companion. He used to go to the lake to do casual labour that would earn him a little something each day. Me and the children looked up to him for our day to day needs but now I am on my own in running this household. The children and I need food which is at times scarce in our house. I feel sorry for these children as they dress in rags because all the little money I find ends up being used to buy food. Me and my children are really lacking care in our loves.
