How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
The biggest difference in my daily life is the security that I got for my poultry farm by fencing it all around. I bought some wire mesh and completely fenced my compound. My chickens are safe from thieves and predators. I am also able to contain them so that they don't become destructive to crops on neighboring farms. I get time to attend to my other issues during the day and only come back in the evening to collect eggs. The proceeds I get from this investment is used to meet my daily needs.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly does so well in ensuring that all our dreams and plans have materialized. These are aspects of life that needed attention but we had no money to do them. Most people needed to start income-generating activities. Only GiveDirecctly has managed to help us with these initiatives.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent the second transfer on building a poultry house. I then bought some chicken. I also paid school fees for my child. I saved some money too that will be used to pay school fees in the next month for her. In addition, I spend a part of the transfer on treatment for I had difficulty in using my arms and legs. After the treatment, I was able to heal and is now recovering fast. I am able to work like before.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
For so long, catering to my family's needs had been a strenuous work to me since I did not have a reliable source of income. I used to do a lot of work and its pay was less to what I needed to meet my family's basic needs. Being able to start a poultry project using my transfer is the biggest difference in my daily life. This is because I will be able to earn an income from this project without much struggle. I will be using this income to cater for my family needs and to pay for my children's education.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was heading to the hospital in the morning since I was not feeling well on the day I received my money. As I was going through my phone, I realized that I had some unread messages. After reading its contents, I became so happy and immediately called my spouse and informed him that GiveDirectly had sent us the promised money. I knew that I would be able to start my poultry project soon.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
It had always been my prayer to start a poultry keeping project for so long but I had not been able to fulfill this due to lack of money. My first transfer allowed me to achieve this since I spent part of it to buy some chicken. Also, I bought a wire mesh to use in fencing a place where I will be feeding my chicken. I used the remaining amount to buy some timber to use in building a spacious chicken coop and food for my family.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I have a very old grass-thatched kitchen that has cost me a lot in terms of repair from time to time.Grass has become scarce to find and a part of the kitchen has had to be left unrepaired hence during rainy seasons it leaks.I have been thinking of building an entirely new house so that the main house I live in can be turned into a kitchen.Receiving this money will therefore facilitate the purchasing of building materials.I will then use what remains from the transfers to buy a few chicken for rearing
What is the happiest part of your day?
Given my health condition,there is very little I do around the homestead.I mostly perform light household chores that are no strenous to my bent back.Am happiest as I perform these duties because even though I had been bedridden for close to five years,I was able to get back to my feet and can still move around.This makes me very happy and grateful
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
A few years ago,I fell sick.It took a while for a proper diagnosis to be found so that treatment can begin.For four years,the doctors I visited kept prescribing medication for a wrong diagnosis and in those years I was bedridden.This illness and recurrent treatment cost my family a lot of resources.When I was finally diagnosed with Tuberculosis,my backbone had already been affected badly.Upto today,I cannot walk straight and as such I cannot perform most duties.I am therefore forced to have someone do most farming activities which given my age,I could still be in a position to perform.This is the biggest hardship I have faced.
